“mediocre food ,shoddy hustling service, shame on you for refusing to allow our canine friends the little left marro bone”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

beautiful expensive restaurant. Known for remarkably expensive but excellent steaks that arrive with little delicious stuffed marrow bones. I hadn't seen son in awhile this was a huge treat we wanted to chat. We were allowed to be there for just under an hour, served by a waiter who hovered, interrupted, and interrupted, and hovered, to the point where we had to ask him to go away for just a little longer. We felt at one point we should ask us to join us! And finally my son asked if he might have his marrow bone for his little doggie at home who loved them. NO the bus boy answered sharply and brusquely. My son was a bus boy at Babbo Mario Battalis excellent spanish restaurant while at NYU custormers asked for that little bone all the time for their canine buddies. Mario understood your significant other was just as important and they were lovingly wrapped and sent home. Suffice to say we were hustled out, I paid $200, some how that waiter managed to get 20% tip from me and poor Paco didn't get his roll around with his bone. I went back to the Standard to tell them things had changed a lot at Madame Geneva how sad for our local.

“Fun food.”
Reviewed January 11, 2012

This place offers food one usually doesn't get elsewhere, so it is clearly worth a visit. Pick something you never heard of. It's probably good!

“Nonya Dinner - British Pub serving asian cuisine”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

This is a hidden gem of NYC. Attached through a secret door is Madame Geneva's, a bar from the prohibition days. They make great unusual drinks using jam. But I digress. We went for the Nonya dinner, a nouvelle Singaporean-Malaysian cuisine.

Sample Menu
Apple, Lotus and Lily Bulb Salad with chili miso dressing
Salt and Pepper Squid with green chili dipping sauce
Szechuan Style “forever crisp” wings
Sweetbread Satay with pickled cucumber, peanut brittle and lime
Grilled New York Strip Steak with chinese black bean and kai lan
Brussels Sprouts with sweet chili glaze, Steamed Rice with ginger-garlic relish
Cassia ‘Eclairs’
Passionfruit Moussline with kaffir champagne jelly

The food was delicious. This place is a real hidden gem. From the outside it just looks like a pub, once you are inside - Yum.

“Madam Geneva - Secret Gin Bar in the back of Double Crown!”
Reviewed June 8, 2011

Well, since you can technically see it from Bleeker street I suppose it's not all that "secret". But to really get the speakeasy feel, enter through Double Crown (around the corner on Bowery) and walk all the way to the back room. A portion of the wall is actually a doorway so push through and you're in Madam Geneva's. The decor is a little dark, I imagine it like an Asian booze den from the 50's with a modern twist. Their specialty is gin but they have a full bar, serving beer, wine and other liquors.

The specialty of the house are gin drinks with house-made jam. It might sound odd but I HIGHLY recommend! I had the blueberry rosemary jam drink and it was light, refreshing, and delicious. I believe it was gin and seltzer with a dollop of the jam in the center. They serve it with a spoon and you can stir the jam throughout the drink. SO good! I will definitely go back there to try the other jams (rhubarb lemongrass and vanilla bean pineapple).

Great spot for something a little unique, off the beaten path. Great for dates. (THough be warned - not cheap!)

“Perfect evening”
Reviewed May 2, 2011

Booked this restaurant for dinner, we arrived about 20min late on a Saturday night but it was not a problem. We were seated in the 2nd room and while it was busy it was very good atmosphere and not too noisy. It was 4 of us and we could talk and hear each other without any problems. We decided to order different plates and share. We had a cocktail each and ate more than enough. We even had desert and the bill came to less than $50.
The food was very very good and would definitely recommend this place. We had a lovely time.
There is a small "club" in another room, but it was too packed and we did not stay. But you couldn't hear any noise from the club during dinner.
