Stayed at the GEM Hotel on April 13th 2013 while in NYC to see Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Fest at MSG. Hotel is perfectly located only a few short blocks away. Nice neighborhood, lots of bars and places to eat. Most Gems are tiny and this hotel is no exception, small hotel and small room. The queen bed takes up almost the whole room. The bathroom on the other hand was large with a nice big shower. The room was clean and neat, no problems at all and I would stay there again.

No room service
No bellman (staff will not help get taxis and will insist on a premium car service)
No concierge
Good wifi
Clean (but tiny) rooms with fairly new fittings
Rooms can be claustrophobic, small window that faces another wall about 2 metres away no street view.

The Gem Hotel in Chelsea is pretty well located for my needs. Close to a good options of subway lines that allows you to move around the city. The staff of the hotel is very pleasant and welcoming, always available to answer questions and requests. They even booked a car service to the airport on my behalf.

The room I stayed was _tiny_, even for two it's a bit small. I was alone, so no problem in my case, but this is small. The shower was very good, water had good pressure and was warm.

There is a few decent restaurants around the hotel, and a nice grocery store next door with organic supplies.

All in all, a good place to stay. I will be back when I'm in town again.

Stayed 3 nights at the GEM Chelsea. Here's what i feel about it:
Location - Good for me. Walk to galleries with spectular arts and the Chelsea Market, etc.. It would depend on what u want to do in NYC.
Room - Smallish but well equpped with safety box, iron, coffee maker, and hairdryer so it is good for me. My room faces the walls of another building but would be quieter than those facing the street, so its also ok for me athough not perfect. Biggest shortcoming is poor sound insolation so for those who dont want noises from the hallway or the next room, or from one's own room, it may be problematic.
Cleaniness - Very Good
Service - Excellent. Super motivated and helpful staff. I left behind the AC Adaptor for my laptop behind and the Housekeepers kept it safely and shipped back to me in Canada promptedly !!
Value - Good

Overall, it is a nice hotel and i would consider staying there again.

Small room. Good for couples and people travelling alone. Clean. Chelsea is just the perfect neighborhood to stay away from regular sightseen. People tired of Times Square and vicinity should go to Chelsea. Lots of amazing things to do: restaurants nearby The Gem, Highline, shopping big brands. You have all in a quiet and charming neighborhood!
