Well, it was a saturday night near Times Square and the best steak around seemed to be Bobby Van's.

It is a good restaurant and I don't know if you can find anyone better in the area when the subject is steak, but overall it doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary.

Great location and atmosphere too.

We fell into this Times Square grillery after the Rockettes. This is a quintessential stereotypical Mew York steak house experience. Service is brusk brisk and good, meat is excellent as is the pasta and the cost is more than you would want to pay West of New York. But if you are hungry for a quality feed on Times Square without a reservation this is a good option.

Called in here by default as it was the nearest restaurant to the hotel during the snow storm, and stubbled on a gem.
I took the waitors advise on which steak to go for and was glad I'd only had a small lunch, it was one of the biggest steak I've eaten and the quality was amazing.
To confirm... it's not just steak, my partner ordered the Sea Bass and enthused through the meal that it was one of the best she'd ever had.
Tip - order just 'half sides' as the amount of veg and chips they provide is more than enough for two people. Not the cheapest meal I've ever had, but it was worth it.
Staff, very friendly and even helped with recommdations for future trips, etc around NY.

I made reservations for 6PM in order to have the time to dine and go to a play. Upon entering the restaurant we were guided to a table in the back. It seemed strange because the restaurant was pretty empty. It began to fill and the wait staff began to congregate within 10 feet of our table. We ordered plenty, steaks, drinks, sides etc. We wanted to split a salad. We told the waiter to take his time, we did not want to be hurried. Okay, so from start to finish somehow he had us out of there in 40 minutes. To make matters more irritating we were charged $5.00 to split our salad - which I happen to know is at the discretion of the waiter. So along with having or table surrounded by about 8 waiters talking, and the restaurant feeling more like an olive garden - it was pretty unplesant. Bobby Van's restaurans are usually pretty good. We have frequented the one in DC and in the Helmsly Met life building but all in all this one was the rotten egg. Guess what? The waiter got a 10% tip.

Best rib eye I've had in a long time. Too bad it took an hour and a half to cook it.
