The chips and salsa was delicious and the drinks were great. When we got there the tables were empty but the bar was full and the tables were supposed to be for dinning only but since the bar was full they let us sit at a table.

After living in this area for a few years I finally decided to check this place out. There is a happy hour from four until close, which is great (even though the drink prices are still NYC expensive). The drinks are good, and strong! The food is also very good and comes in large portions. The staff are all very friendly as well.

Set in the midst of the NYU community, Murphy & Gonzalez offers some terrific lunches for a modest price...I like the portebella mushroom burger or the scallops. Best of all, it's not over-run with students since it's more of a "restaurant" than a fast-food joint, and appropriately a bit priciere. You're able to hear yourself talk, at least, and the service is professional, reliable and friendly.

M&G staff are solicitous and the food and drink choices are diverse and of high quality. As the name suggests, they have Irish pub food, plus Mexican cuisine, all well prepared. But it is a bar-room atnosphere, with a beat-box sound track thumping away, forcing the patrons to hold conversations at yell level, so everyone is outshouting everyone else, which is a bit of a downer after a brief while.

We spent a evening at M&G for dinner. Good food at a fair price in a lively but pleasant surrounding.
