“The Schwartzman Building is awesome! ”
Reviewed July 10, 2014 via mobile

I know what you're saying - what the heck is the Schwartzman Building? Well, that is the official name of the main building of the New York Public Library.

Whatever you call it, this building is awesome. Back in the day, I would go there to do research, spending the whole afternoon in the Rose Reading Room. Just climbing the steps all the way to the Rotunda, with its ceiling mural of Prometheus stealing fire from heaven, can be fun.

I also always loved the free exhibits they have hosted over the years. When we visited most recently, the exhibit was on the history of children's literature. Splendid!

“Beautiful, grand building with loads to see”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

We planned just a quick visit round the library but were surprised with how much there is to see. There is a free tour every so often which is definitely worth taking. They have the first Gutenberg Bible to come to the United States, original Winnie the Pooh teddies, an exhibition on children's books and some of the grandest rooms in all of New York.

“Go if you are close by”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

The main reading room was closed so that was disappointing. We did get to see a nice exhibit of Thomas Jefferson's handwritten copy of the Declaration of Independence. Go if you have time but I wouldn't call this a must see sight.

“Worth a stop and it's free”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

This library is beautiful and majestic. We were delighted to walk around and read about the history. My mom, my niece, and I had a great time people watching and enjoying a free seat a brief moment of peace and quiet before we went charging back into the city. For what can be a very expensive city, something that is free and not crowded is a fantastic find. We did see the exhibit, "why children books matter." It was a fantastic exhibit that took me back to all the books I read throughout my childhood, very fun exhibit.
