The building is phenomenal. It's close to Times Square and Grand Central Station, not to mention Bryant Park - so it's value added in terms of destinations. The Library Lions (Daniel Chester French, sculptor) are legendary and I understand that certain parts have been polished from being handled by visitors. The exhibits are usually good and free. The Library as a resource for information is NOT the Library of Congress. It's also "closed stacks" which means it's not a lending library. You can come and request a book... wait a few minutes and it will be handed to you. You can peruse the volume but only on premises. Since libraries, by in large are becoming obsolete, this will remain a testament to the printed page and the concept of making information available to the public. If you are creative, try to imagine the square block where the Library and Bryant Park occupies as a tall walled deeply banked reservoir. Before the Library, this reservoir was the source of all water for the city.

The building is amazing and the price is free. You don't see many books anywhere, but the building is very cool. It is also in Bryant Park which is very quaint.

We loved that it was free but it was quite special to walk around the building and into the different reading rooms with real New Yorkers using them, the original dolls that inspired Winnie the Pooh...
