A great and accessible spot to learn your NYC history. You can spend an hour or a day here. It's at the beginning of Museum Mile. I've been a member for about 3 years.

There are so many wonderful things to see and visit in New York - this isn't one of them! There is an excellent 20 minute movie of the history but its too short. The Staten Island room is not very interesting as an outside visitor. The main room with the static section of the history is quite good but even still overall I was quite disappointed. If you go, check out the dolls house.

We went to this museum because the entrance was included in the bus tour. The building itself is beautiful and very well restored, location in front of Central Park is perfect for a walk. However the collection of the museum is somehow scarce, I would expect more things, artifacts of the history of this amazing city

As native Staten Islanders, we were so excited to see this time limited exhibit of our beloved island
And we're not disappointed. There were artifacts, photos, maps, clothing, etc documenting the history of our borough. The exhibit was extensive and worth seeing. Sadly it ends January 21, 2013.

The Museum of the City of New York shows different exhibits at different times. It's always best to check out museums, or any place else, online or by calling before you visit. We paid the lower senior rate, but all museums in NYC are expensive, so $10 is not really bad. We went to see the exhibit on U.S. World's Fairs, which of course featured the 1939 and 1968 NYC World's Fairs. It was extremely well done, large, and very informative. We also enjoyed an exhibit of Currier & Ives Winter in NYC prints and artifacts and an exhibit on Staten Island, which was excellent. The cafe and bathrooms on the lower level were clean and good. The bus or a taxi are the best modes of transportation to this museum on 103rd St. and Fifth Ave.
