The Hampton Inn NY 35th Street definitely has some great aspects going for it -- locaton is wonderful. Just a short stroll to Penn Station, Empire State Building, Macy's, and Madison Square Garden. A little longer walk to Time Square and Broadway, and about a 30-minute walk to Central Park. The free breakfast was convenient, the rooms were compact but nicely decorated, the bathroom was modern/stylish, the hotel stored our luggage after checkout so we could extend our stay, and the view of the Empire State Building was amazing. I really wanted to give the hotel a higher rating, but some missteps along the way caused me to rate as average.
When our room was ready, the desk staff gave me the key and told me the room number -- and that was it. She gave me no additional information, such as details on hotel amenities like breakfast, fitness room, Internet, or even checkout time. There was no Diamond Hilton Honors welcome gift in the room. And the walls were very thin - we could hear folks talking in their rooms and opening/closing doors on their arrival.
The hotel employees were friendly -- maybe just a little retraining would turn this average hotel into one that is great.More
