I booked the Jr. Suite at Ink48 for a girl’s weekend away. We were in town to see a show.
We drove into town and got a great deal on parking at a lot that was only 1 block away; it was ½ the price of what we would have paid for the hotel valet.
Upon entering the hotel, there was nobody to assist us with our bags or open the doors for us which is unusual for Kimpton service (This happened twice when entering the hotel. The one time there were people to open the door, one of them was smoking). There was also no revolving door so getting into the hotel with all of our bags was a bit awkward.
The two young gentlemen at the front desk were friendly but had to check to see if our room was ready even though we checked-in after 3pm.
We also weren’t given a mini-bar key but didn’t want to have to ask for it after we realized it.
The elevator situation is rather peculiar. There are four elevators available to go to the rooms (which fill up very quickly) but it can sometimes take up to 5 minutes to get one.
Additionally, the hotel staff and guests shared elevators. We had to wait additional time for elevators b/c they were full of service staff on a couple of occasions.
Upon entering our room, we were impressed. The Jr. Suite has an amazing amount of room. The living space is incredible with a fabulous bathroom to match.
However, the partial view of the Hudson is tainted by dirty rooftops and a fleet of telephone-service trucks parked in clear view.
The hotel hallways were stifling and didn’t seem to be air-conditioned (or were just considerably hotter than the rooms).
In the morning, we could smell cigarette smoke coming through the vents of the room even though it’s a non-smoking hotel.
Once settled in the room, we decided to explore the hotel to see what else it had to offer. Surprisingly, there was no business center (although the hotel does have wireless capabilities so be sure to bring your laptop).
We were going to be out all night and just wanted to see the rooftop bar but it was closed and the staff said it wasn’t accessible so we missed probably the best part of the hotel.
We were contemplating dining at the hotel but arrived a little early. When asked to see a menu, the young lady seemed a bit miffed at us and stated that the menu wasn’t yet available because the chef hadn’t produced it even though the restaurant was slated to open in 15 minutes. The rest of the lobby was decent with a small “Living Room” section where the evening’s wine reception was hosted (which started late) and where there is some additional seating in front of the building.
The hotel’s surrounding area in HK is very convenient. We were able to walk to a great restaurant (44 ½ ) just a couple of blocks away. Additionally, it’s VERY close to the Lincoln Tunnel, the convention center and several other go-to areas in the city. For location alone, I wouldn’t totally write-off Ink48 and would possibly give it another try.
Overall, the hotel is decent but the service was seriously lacking (there were too many little things to list). Based on other reviews, I would like to think of our experience as a fluke. However, there are other nearby Kimpton hotels which I would book first before ever returning to Ink48. If this were my first Kimpton experience, I probably wouldn’t have been too excited to see what else they had to offer.

PROS: Location, convenience, newer hotel, clean/large rooms
CONS: Service, waiting for elevators, no business center

Booked one week in April and had to stay two weeks thanks to the vocanic disruption and our flight being cancelled. The staff were very helpful by checking our flights and reassuring us that we'd be able to keep our room until we could get flights. We had been upgraded to a king premier room and we were able to keep this room at the same rate.
The room was huge and very clean. We were on the 8th floor and yes we had views of the car lots but when we looked beyond that we had amazing views of the skyline of New York and could even see the lights at Times Square. The room was cleaned every day and bedding was changed when you requested it.
We enjoyed the coffee in the morning and the wine reception in the evening and even had our first play on a Wii.
We didn't eat in the restaurant but spent a lovely evening on the terrace of the rooftop bar. I felt like an extra in a film. The bar is stunning with amazing views. Cocktails were about $15 and we were made feel very welcome by both staff and locals drinking in the bar.
We ate breakfast in The Diner which is 2 blocks along 11th ave and also ate one evening in Daisy Maes BBQ next to hotel. We also paid a visit to Intrepid musuem and found it very interesting (and its only 2 mins away) and is across from H&H bagels!
The only down side with the rooms/hotel were the corridors which we found were just too dark and the lifts which we both kept getting shocks from.
Had an amazing time in New York but the highlight from the whole holiday has to be Ink48 as it was so amazing :)

Booked this hotel by accident bidding on a hotel near Central Park South. Rooms are very nice above the 6th floor. Only OK below that. Staff excellent. Decent espresso (Starbucks) is a couple of blocks away , as are a few good restaurants. Was OK for us as we took taxis everywhere anyway. Not a recommended area for walkers, surrounded by car dealers, etc.. Free internet in rooms. Would prefer to stay near Rockefeller Center unless this hotel is priced attractively.

We stayed at the Ink48 for 3 nights. We had a wonderful King room with a city view that was breathtaking at night. Our room was modern, comfortable and perfectly clean. The shower was the best i have experienced in any hotel ever. We walked to several nice restaurants nearby, the Landmark Tavern an Irish bar and restaurant just down the street on 11th Ave, had good food and friendly service. Nizza on 9th for Italian was awesome, Mercury Bar on 9th at 46th for great drinks and food. We stopped in at Grace wine and liquor on 44th and 10th for a nice bottle wine for our room. Easy walk to Times Square which was only a 10 minute walk through a nice neighborhood area on 9th with many restaurants and bars to check out. We walked from Central Park all the way back to our hotel down 5th avenue to the beautiful St. Patricks Cathedral then down 53rd to broadway then over to Times Square and on to our hotel at 48th and 11th, it was a great walking adventure. The rooftop bar at Ink48 was a great place to end our walk with a fantastic martini, the rooftop bar has a fabulous view of the city, you must check it out. We had a fantastic stay with no complaints, no excessive noise, no problems at all. We will definately stay here on our next visit to New York City!

My husband and I and a few friends were very pleased with this new hotel. The rooms were a good size, very neat and clean, comfy beds, service was great. The rooftop bar is just beautiful, with a nice breeze even in all the heat. The staff was so accomodating. They had iced tea and lemonade upon arrival, and a wine greeting at 5-6 and coffe and tea in the a.m. There is also a decent deli on the next corner. You won't be sorry if you book here. All of us said we would be back, and everyone we met was pleased.
