i stayed at hotel 52 during my first trip to new york along with my girlfriend.
good points: um, it's quite well located.
bad points: sheesh, where to start? the accommodation wasn't cheap, but it was poor. furniture, fixtures and fittings all seemed 'tired' (to try to be polite), the self-catering functions not actually functioning (a bit of an issue when you've gone for self-catering!), the room was scarcely secure (a rickety lock on the door which would barely have withstood a sharp wind and a window that looked out on to the fire escape that wouldn't shut), then there was the drilling that began at about 8:30 each morning - noisily waking us up and caking the common areas in dust.
the hapless handyman called joey tried to help, but all we got (on the day we left) were some vouchers to the owner's diner - not somewhere we'd have chosen to go (and this being new york, they awarded themselves a handsome tip from the voucher amount!).
