Owner description: Not all bike tours are created equal. Since 2001, the expert, experienced, professional guides of Bike the Big Apple have been safely taking guests far off the "beaten path" - in all 5 boroughs! With us, you will venture into real ethnic neighborhoods, and experience what life is like beyond the skyscrapers. In fact, we are quite proud to still be the only company to do bike tours of our beloved Bronx - seldom seen by visitors to the city. Why take a bike tour? Walking tours are severely limited in the distance they can travel; you are either going to visit a very small area of the city, or spend half of your day underground. Bus tours can cover plenty, but you are completely removed from the neighborhoods by glass. On bike, you can cover much and still get a real "feel" for the neighborhoods we take you to.Come ride with us!

We loved this tour! Got to see many different sides of New York's ethnic diversity through the friday tour. Biking in lovely spring weather was just the best way to see the city! Many thanks to our super friendly, fun and knowledgeable tour guides Richard, Mark and Max, who made this an unforgettable experience! We recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience NYC in a unique way.

I went on the ethnic apple tour and cannot recommend it highly enough. I had tried to do it once before but the weather was against us (my money was fully refunded immediately, none of this 10 day wait) I managed it next trip and was so pleased. Guides were very knowledgeable, flexible and it was a wonderful way to experience areas that you would not normally get to see. The guide chooses your lunch stop and for me that was the only slight quibble - a Polish lunch was just a bit too heavy for a day on the bike, but you could have had a very cheap 3 course meal if you wanted- I chose a bowl of soup that was fine. They go at a moderate pace and we had a variety of ages on our ride a total of about 10. I will be trying to get on some of the other tours in future trips. It will go down as a real highlight of my experiences in NY and I would thoroughly recommend it.

One of the highlights of not only our New York City trip but also the accompanying 15 day New England vacation, was a 7-hour tour of Manhattan, Brooklen, Queens and Roosevelt Island through Bike the big apple www.bikethebigapple.com. The company offers numerous varied tours each day of the week. Ours was the Friday "ethnic" tour. We were apprehensive. Traffic seemed very busy on 2nd Avenue and the thought of us or our 13 year old biking on a NYC street was scary. "Not to worry" said the tour guides as they fitted us on good quality bikes with all the latest safety gear at the 68th and 2nd Avenue shop. The head guide was Levi, a fearless, highly informed, safety conscious young guy whose real job is a bike courier in Manhattan. (talk about scary jobs). His assistant was a librarian from Queens. They took us down 2nd Avenue to the Roosevelt Island tram where we boarded and got spectacular views over the East River. From there we biked slowly and steadily through back roads and bike paths and parks on that island, then Astoria, through a unique sculpture garden in Queens, past Hassidic Rabbis in Williamsburg, with a stop for lunch on a unique stretch of Bedford Avenue and eventually back on the amazing top deck of the Williamsburg Bridge, through the lower east side, east village, finally the United Nations and back to the shop. There were plenty of restroom and water stops. There were maybe a dozen people on the tour from several continents. The cost was around $80-$90 per person. Overall, extremely interesting. I have lived in NYC and I saw things I never expected and would never have had the chance to see. Highly recommended.
