Owner description: Not all bike tours are created equal. Since 2001, the expert, experienced, professional guides of Bike the Big Apple have been safely taking guests far off the "beaten path" - in all 5 boroughs! With us, you will venture into real ethnic neighborhoods, and experience what life is like beyond the skyscrapers. In fact, we are quite proud to still be the only company to do bike tours of our beloved Bronx - seldom seen by visitors to the city. Why take a bike tour? Walking tours are severely limited in the distance they can travel; you are either going to visit a very small area of the city, or spend half of your day underground. Bus tours can cover plenty, but you are completely removed from the neighborhoods by glass. On bike, you can cover much and still get a real "feel" for the neighborhoods we take you to.Come ride with us!

My 18 year old son and I recently went on the Secret Streets Tour. The tour was enjoyable and we saw a lot of things but I would not recommend it for everyone. New York is obviously a very busy city and at times we were trying to ride thru and around people even on sidewalks and some of them didn't like it. You also get out into some crazy traffic so I would not recommend this for younger children. There are frequent stops but if you are not used to riding a bike it is a long time, about 7 hours, you will feel it.

Our guide was okay but he didn't have as much knowledge of the area as I expected. The weather was beautiful so overall we enjoyed the tour and I am glad we did it but I don't know that I would do it again.

This was our first visit to NYC so we there was a lot we wanted to see. Yes all the iconic sights were great but the guided bike tour of Central Park and Harlem was definitely the best part of the trip. You get to see things you'd never see on your own and learn loads of interesting facts - without feeling like you are being lectured to. Our guide, Jesse, was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. After experiencing this tour we would love to do ALL of the other tours - but preferably in warmer weather!

We booked with Bike the Big Apple after a colleague recommended it as the best thing she'd done in New York and we agree! We booked the Central Park and Harlem tour last Sunday, guided by Marc who was such a knowledgeable, friendly and interesting bloke that this became the highlight of our week in New York.
It was cold weather and much better to be cycling than sat freezing and immobile on a tour bus. The bikes provided were good and well maintained and the tour was excellently planned and suitable for anyone who can peddle a bike at any level - you don't have to be Bradley Wiggins to love this day out as the stops are frequent and the pace leisurely.
We had the luxury of stopping at interesting places wherever they popped up and there was loads to see - I was surprised at how good a cycling city New York is, much more chilled than english cities and it felt really safe. We visited a cool and friendly church, ate great soul food, learnt all about Central Park's past and present and had a good ride round Harlem, learning about the people and places and stopping outside the legendary Apollo theatre.
We loved Marc, he shared his love of and knowledge about his homecity with us and gave us a great day, going off at 'tangents' and answering our incessant questions with insight and humour.
If you want to see New York - do it on a bike with Marc!

This is the second tour I've taken with Bike the Big Apple, and both were awesome! I would highly recommend this tour, it was a great way to get a little taste of Brooklyn as we were staying in Manhattan. The pace of the biking is very easy, and it was neat to drive over the Brooklyn bridge. The tour guide was very knowledgable. The stop for lunch at the brewery in Brooklyn was a very good place for lunch and a tour.
