“WOW! A cool Oassis in busy Time Square!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2007

I first found this hotel on Trip Advisor. Booked it for the Labour-Day wekeend, based on all the positive reviews. They were right-on!! From the moment we arrived, we knew that the Hotel Casablanca in Times Square was different than the rest. Smaller, a boutique feel to it, the service and smiling faces of the staff was sincere and constant. If you ever needed directions, sight-seeing recommendations...anything, they were all very keen and pleased to help. The included breakfasts plus Wine & Cheese at night were refreshing and well presented in a cosy lounge area that had a Pianist playing in the evenings. Inside, it was cool, quiet and peaceful, including the room which was not huge but clean and well appointed / decorated. What a respite from the hot pavement below, as the hotel is only about a 30 second walk to the bustle of Times Square. An added bonus: Tony's Restaurant next door. Fresh, amazing, delicious food, big family-style servings.. (too much sometimes) with the best service thrown in to seal the deal! This was our restaurant of choice on the trip!! If you like great service, friendly staff and the calm of a quiet, smaller designer hotel in one of New York's best locations, I highly recommend The Casablanca Hotel. Well done you guys!!

I went to NY for the first time in August and wanted to stay somewhere central. I read so many reviews etc and checked so mny prices! the casablanca came up best in terms of price for what you get. I paid around $275 pl tax per night and for this time of year it was reasonable. The room was fine, I was not unhappy to be there but it was possibly a little older than what i thought (or maybe because i stayed the first 4 nights at the modern Bryant Park). Anyway, its true the staff are all very friendly and helpful, they did their best. The wine/cheese afternoon thing is really great, and i enjoyed being able to have a glass of wine before getting ready for whatever i was doing that night. I think it is a great options for families and couples, but hey i travelled on my own and also enjoyed this hotel, it just depends what u are looking for. By the way there was a big storm when i was there and i didnt hear a thing, nor any other outside noise. Air con was a bit noisy so i had to switch it off and use the room fan which was cool enough to sleep. Overall it is a great hotel and i had a wonderful experience but i think the best part is value for money.

I booked my stay at the Casablanca having read the good reviews on Tripadvisor and was not disappointed! This hotel really is a hidden gem, just steps away from Times Square, the Casablanca has some of the best and most helpful staff that I have experienced in over 25 years of travel. The complimentary buffet breakfast really filled up the energy tanks whilst the cheese and wine from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. was a great tonic after spending the day treading the streets as a tourist! As for a family hotel? well I would have said that this hotel is generally not for kids however my three, 14yrs and twins of 11yrs absolutely adored the place and the staff - so perhaps I am wrong here!!
Finally, having just finished three weeks of a family holiday starting in San Francisco, down Route 1 to Santa Monica, over to Las Vegas and finishing in New York, the vote as to our best hotel was overwhelmingly the Casablanca!! I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel and their wonderful staff to anybody visiting the City!!

This site helped me home in on the right hotel for New York. The Casablanca is excellent. Really good room very helpful staff provided good advice about everything we asked from best shows to places to eat. We were upgraded to a king and it was one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in for a large city. Location was excellent just off times square but still quite. The hotel is small with a nice communal area where you can have breakfast and complimentary wine in the evening. The Italian adjacent is really good and bar BXL has good belgium beer. A recommendation to friends and colleagues.

Extremely friendly staff and immaculate rooms. Continental breakfast was above average and lounge area was very well maintained. Wine tasting was very refreshing. Suggestions from staff were very helpful. The main limitation was the size of the room. If you are uncomfortable with small spaces (the room was approximately 11' by 16") this is not the place for you. On the other hand the location was excellent and I am told that most NY hotels have very small rooms. The restaurant next door, Tony's, was very good. One portion for two is more than enough.

I'm writing this to help other TripAdvisor users, not to grind any particular ax. I recommend not ordering any "additional items" through the hotel's website, or if you do, call ahead to make sure they are following through.
My wife and I were staying at the Casablanca for our tenth wedding anniversary, which the hotel knew. When I booked our stay, I ordered (as a surprise to my wife) add-ons that the hotel offers on its website: a bottle of champagne, a bottle of red wine, and flowers to be waiting in our room for our arrival. The total price of the add-ons was about $150.
The items were a no-show. They apologized when I pointed out the omission, and offered to make the champagne complimentary and deliver the flowers the next day.
We ended up cancelling our stay, so I won't comment on the hotel other than to say that everything else seemed very nice, the location is fantastic for Times Square access, and the staff and management were genuinely upset that they had made the mistake, apologizing many times. They tried to make it right, and graciously agreed to cancel our reservation.
I believe that the Casablanca hotel probably deserves all the great reviews it gets on TripAdvisor and I don't discourage anyone from booking this hotel (except the add-ons). MY overall experience was unquestionably "Terrible" but I can easily see why everyone else has liked it. I hope relating my experience is helpful to you, the TripAdvisor user, if you're considering the add-ons.
