“Casablanca NYC”

How amazing to find a quiet spot so near to Times Square. No need for taxis as we walk to theater and restaurants! Love Rick's Cafe lounges with breakfast, wine and cheeses and 24 hour espresso/capuccino maker plus computer access, TVs, newspapers. We've stayed here for over ten years and always recommend to friends. Another great trip with high energy and a chance to relax all rolled into one.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room if street noise bothers you - can be an issue on garbage pick up days!

All of staff were nice-thank you for hailing a cab on a hot day (sorry, can' remember the doorman's name). Having soymilk was nice, too. Oh, of course, I enjoyed champaign every evening. Although it was pretty hot out, the ceiling fan in the room was effective -we did not have to turn on a/c at night.

The hotel room was nice and clean. Had working ac and tv. I think this hotel makes even better choice because is good location. The price was also great compared to many other crazy expensive places. You should do your own research and see if you can find other places.

The Casablanca Hotel first came to our attention in 2008 when they ran a special offering rooms with no election campaign coverage. Tempting, but we stayed in the Battery that trip before we knew much about the Casablanca. In 2010 there weren't any deals so we stayed elsewhere in midtown Manhattan. This time, we prepaid and got an excellent rate. We arrived on foot from Penn Station on a hot Sunday afternoon in late July and rode right up to our 5th floor room. The room was small but well-appointed and the bath had some very nice touches, including decorative tile and a nice rain showerhead. Since the weather was hot and humid we took plenty of cool showers and the toiletries were very high quality with a nice fragrance.

Being steps from Times Square has its advantages: close to subway, food and theaters. And turnoffs: massive crowds of people, many of whom seemed to spend hours gawking at the video displays on the sides of buildings. The fake Disney and Sesame Street characters wearing dirty and tattered costumes to sell photos to tourists were an eyesore. A quieter part of the city would be preferable but one of the nicest things about the Casablanca is Rick's Cafe, which is roomy, comfortable, a fun place to chat with other travelers, many of whom are from Canada and Europe, and has never-ending supplies of food: breakfast, snacks and coffee, and a very tasty happy hour buffet in the evening. A pleasant surprise one afternoon was the realization that an espresso/cappuccino machine was available, along with instructions for fixing your own iced coffee. There was always a supply of icewater with lemon.

The room was small, but not by NYC standards, and in a dark interior with a window onto the fire escapes, but we never heard any street noise and slept well. We spent approximately 1 hour per day in the room each of 4 days, aside from sleeping, so all we needed was to shower and change clothes frequently to keep up with the heat and humidity and the desire to dress appropriately for theater and music clubs.

Staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful. We were very pleased with our stay and happy to join the throngs of Casablanca admirers.

This was my 4th visit to NYC and, for the price, the Casablanca is by far the nicest hotel I have stayed in.It is in the perfect location, extremely accommodating staff, the room was clean and quiet. Good breakfast. Wine and cheese reception plentiful. Mgr. John Toboada runs a tight (and very comfortable) ship!

I stayed in the Casablanca for 5 nights in mid-July with my wife and 2 daughters (13 and 9). We stayed in a suite with two double beds and a sofa bed.

The room was spacious and well maintained although the A/C was fairly noisy and there was also quite a bit of noise from the A/C of the restaurant behind the hotel. We ended up using the ceiling fans instead of A/C most nights which was just about OK - we were there during the heatwave so I imagine for the rest of the year you would get away with the fans. The room also had a slight smell of Pizza which we were sure came form the proximity to the restaurant below the hotel (we were on the 5th floor). The restaurant has vents at the rear which a lot of the rooms overlook. We did complain about this and the maids put some air freshener in the room which didn't really help - we just got used to the smell and the positives in the hotel far outweighed the problems.

The hotel has a cafe area (Rick's Cafe) which is open 24/7 which doubles as the breakfast area. Tea and Coffee plus biscuits are available free of charge all day which is great. In the evenings the hotel offer free wine and nibbles which was wonderful.

The continental breakfast was top quality and included fresh bagels and pastries which the staff will toast for you and deliver to your table. There aren't quite enough proper tables in the cafe area so you may have to sit in a sofa to eat but again not a major problem. The service at breakfast and generally in Rick Cafe was fantastic and all the staff we came across during our stay were attentive and welcoming. The concierge booked tables and even phoned ahead when we were running late one day.

Apart form the staff the best thing about the hotel is the location and the sense of calm that prevails throughout. You are only 25 yards form Times Square but it feels like you are miles away it is so peaceful.

Casablanca Hotel doesn't have a massive range of facilities and services but it offers good hospitality and peaceful surroundings in a great location

The Hotel Casablanca is indeed a splendid oasis in the midst of the hustle and heat of Times Square in the midst of a New York summer. We were made feel very welcome. We stayed there for 7 nights in early July 2012. We had come from Australia and done a tour of the Canadian Rockies before crossing to NYC. New York was very hot and sultry but the Casablanca is cool and pleasant. The staff are wonderful. Thank you especially to Peter on the front desk and Danielle up in Rick's Cafe on weekend happy hours. You made us feel very welcome. We loved coming back to the hotel. It felt like home every time you walk in the door and Rick's Cafe is the perfect place to relax and enjoy those moments of down time with a pleasant glass of wine, some fresh vegetable dip and some cheese. Lots of cold water available 24 hours a day and the staff on the front desk always gave us complementary bottled water to take out on our various trips and explorations. The reviews on Tripadvisor are accurate. The Casablanca is great. Its not particularly cheap and the rooms are adequate without being outstanding but the feel of the whole experience at this hotel makes it all worth while. I'm not saying the rooms are substandard. Far form it, they are perfectly clean and comfortable. But they are not luxury if that's what you are looking for. However the position of the hotel is priceless and the vibe of the place is most worthwhile, giving an overall feeling of excellent value for money. We will certainly seek to stay at the Casablanca if we are ever lucky enough to revist the Big Apple.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 505. Near the elevator on 5. Good room. Had no problems with it at all. Toilet...
