I like to stay in boutique hotels because compared to bigger hotels, you are more likely to get good service when you pay the price. I live in the city and had previously had good impression about the hotel. When I had to pick a place to stay due to hurricane Sandy, I chose this hotel with expectation of good service. It turned out to be quite a disappointment. The room is very nice as expected. But the service of the first floor simply falls short. Half the time doorman and any person who seems to be assigned to help guests going in and out of the door do not pay attention. Concierges avoid eye contact with guests. Waiters in the bar and the restaurant are surprisingly very rude. The hotel does not seem to emphasize at all on the service. I have not seen a single person on the first floor who smiles at the guests. It is quite strange. If you go to a cheaper hotel and nobody smiles at guests, you will not find it strange. You did not pay for it. My experience in the hotel made me question the class of the hotel in the end. Perhaps I perceived the hotel in a higher level than it really was. House keeping was consistently nice. The food in the restaurant is seriously below par. I would recommend people to eat outside the hotel. If you walk a couple of blocks west, you will find many nice eats. I stayed because I wanted to stay at least once. I think I am done. Probably not likely to recommend it to friends or family.

The Omni has a great location...right in midtown near many office, 5th avenue shopping, easy walking to Central Park, etc. There is alot going for the property, but caring service is not one of those qualities. Upon arrival you are met with a lack of personal attention...doormen and bell stand employees look the other way an rarely open the door, and reception is robot-like. I have stayed in the hotel over 50 times as it is 1 block from my work...I have never been welcomed back, or frankly even acknowledged as a person. The lobby, elevators, gym and other public spaces are somewhat worn...not up to well-maintained 5 star standard. The sleeping rooms were all renovated within the past 2 years. They are nicely updated from the old heavy, old fashioned Ethan Allen decor. The exception is the bathrooms, which were not touched and have a heavy pink marble dominated decor that is ok, but not exactly modern. Room service and restaurants are sub par, with the food generally blah. If you can get a reasonable rate and choose a room overlooking the street rather than the dark interior courtyard, this can be a good choice in midtown...better in my opinion than the nearby Palace.

Room Tip: Overlooking street on high floor

The Omni Berkshire is a very dependable hotel in New York. The rooms have recently been redone and are very light and comfortable and a decent size for New York City. I would advise joining their loyalty program as they bring you complimentary beverages in the morning, free WiFi and the opportunity to upgrade the room at a reasonable price. The location at 52nd and Madison is great for shopping, theatre, and proximity to the MOMA and the park at the same time as being quiet for NYC. I think it is the best deal in the $400-500 range as the staff are pleasant, the rooms good and the location great.

Room Tip: Join the loyalty program for the upgrades WiFi and coffee. It is a no brainer.

I have stayed at the Omni Birkshire hotel probably a dozen times over the last 5 years and the hotel never disappoints. Make sure you sign up as a preferred cutomer and you'll get the free wifi, turndown service, newspapers and drink of choice delivered to your room in the morning. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean, the beds are good and the location is just perfect! The gym is fine as well, but if you are running, it is nicer to run to Central Park instead of staying inside. Also, the restaurant is way too expensive, just go opposite the street for your breakfast and buy a bottle of wine at the Duane Rade and you are good to go!

Room Tip: I always ask for a corner room.

This hotel is fantastically located in New York. It's right on 5th Ave and Madison Avenue if you want to be well located for shopping. We also managed to walk to Flatiron, Empire State, grand Central, Times Square and Central Park!
The hotel is immaculate and very comfortable with a fabulous bathroom, the family room for 4 of us only have double beds which are really quite small but very comfortable!
Join the select guest program for free wi-fi and morning coffee delivered to your room!!!!
Although they were faced with difficulties the hotel ran incredibly in the aftermath of a hurricane!!

This is was my second time staying here. Very clean hotel, friendly staff, located very close to 5th Ave, St. Patrick's Cathedral, short walk to Grand Central, Central Park, Park Ave & Times Square. Rooms were very clean and smelled nice. Rooms are not very big in size but not too small either. We arrived at 7am and to our surprise we were able to check into our room right away. Which was nice after flying all night long. The concierge was very helpful. They were able to make dinner reservations for us at a nearby restaurant. They were going to arrange for a car service to take us to JFK however we declined when we found out the cost. If you need a car service don't go thru the hotel. The doormen were very helpful and friendly. Restaurant was ok. One thing we noticed in the hotel room there were no dressers or coffee maker. Not a big deal but a little odd. The hotel isn't very big in size but it is perfectly located. Overall the hotel is nice.

We stayed at this hotel as it was listed with the NYC Marathon.

Pros:
1. Location was excellent. One block off 5th Avenue, it is a short walking distance to Rockefeller Centre, Times Square and Central Park. Three different subway lines within a couple of blocks.

2. Both the room and bathroom were very spacious and clean. Nice soft bathrobes!

3. Quiet. Our room was located on the 4th floor, directly across from the elevators and facing the front of the hotel. From either side, we did not hear any traffic noise from the street or any conversation from the hallway.

4. The staff (Concierge, Doormen, Front Desk and Housekeeping) were all very courteous and friendly.

Cons:
1. No Complimentary Wi-Fi (Unless you sign up as “Select Guest”

2. The connected restaurant was expensive. However, they did not hide this fact. For those who complained about the expensive breakfast buffet...all you have to do is look at the room service menu to figure that one out.

3. Closet space only. There were a couple small drawers in the nightstand. If no drawers were available, they should supply more hangers. We kept our clothes in our suitcases.

Would I stay here again? Probably not, I don’t have the income to afford it.
