“Excellent Service, but nothing in life is free”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2014

The W Hotel is well located, not far from a subway station, the UN or Grand Central Station. Small rooms, but this is NYC. There was a fee for wireless internet, a fee for using the computer and a fee for printing a page from the computer, very tiresome in this day and age. Opps, I did forget the free apples at the front desk, Good Enough to Keep Doctors Away!! Not sure is they repel anyone else, but the internet charges might.

Green Features: Sharing water from a communal bucket by the elevators. Gross

I had not stayed in Midtown before thinking there wasn't as much to do, but it was an easy walk to the park, the library, the great old manhattan storefronts of 1st and 2nd avenue, and Lexington around here was less congested than I could imagine. All close to 6 train subway and E train to JFK - easy in and out using public transportation. For an angeleno, it was great to be back on a useful and easy mass transit system.

As far as the hotel, I couldn't have been happier, The staff was attentive and respectful, with special praise for David Nicolls, who I had read was a helpful coordinator, but that is an understatement. As the W insider, he went above and beyond service with a smile. I told him about my anniversary visit to the City, and he upgraded my room, left a plate of chocolate strawberries to welcome us, and checked in to make sure everything was ok, unobtrusively, more than once.

Ive stayed at other W properties in the city, but couldn't have been happier with this one.

When planning this trip to NYC all I knew is that I wanted to stay in Midtown. I researched multiple hotels and was quite honestly very worried. We ended up going on priceline to see what we could get for our bid and we are very very pleased with the results. We stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday (5/2-5/4).

First, the location is perfect. Directly across the street from the Waldorf Astoria and extremely convienent access to everything. I was able to run to Central Park and walk to MOMA and Museum of Natural History. We arrived at noon and had no problem checking in early. The staff were curtious, helpful and fast.

The we had a room on the 5th floor with a large window but no view (who cares we were only in the room to sleep!). The room was spacious (from what I have read about NYC standards) and had a king bed and office area. The two of us had no problems with making the space work. The bathroom was clean and had a nice walk in shower. The hotel provides Bliss products which smell delicious. Checkout was also fast and the hotel held our luggage so we could continue to explore the city.

Downsides: The hallways are a little dark. At night on the first night only (maybe I was too tired on the second night) we could hear groups of loud people yelling in the hallway.

We did not eat at the hotel but I think there was a breakfast set up.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and I did not hear any "city" noise.

This placed used to be hip, but now it is a middle-aged blah property in decline. Definitely in need of a renovation of decor, attitude and service. Breakfast was tasty but service was sloooow. Don't ask for aspirin for a headache you will get a line about liability. Rooms are small, and the prices are not right. Go to the W Union Square or Times Square and skip this property

I had a comfortable, spacious corner suite with lots of space but found the furniture quite basic, the bathroom a little small. There's an effort to make the room fashion chic but doesn't quite work. The large bar area was quite monstrously decorated like something out of a hospital room, a pity. The lobby is always crowded. There's plenty of coming and going. The restaurant service is uneven. If you're lucky, the staff is very attentive. My neighbours were very noisy and you could hear everything they said. Otherwise, my room had a nice view. The hotel is only a few blocks away from Rockefeller Center and Saks Fifth Avenue.

I stayed in the W New York on a business trip for a few days on 4/23/14. As usual I had a great stay as all the staff makes you feel so welcomed. My ambassador " Derron" is my favorite person at this hotel. He is so knowledgeable... from the best sports bars to dinner places. I cannot wait to go back!

I put out a call on Facebook for a "reasonably priced hotel" in New York City . The W Hotel was recommended by two different people In two different parts of the country . That was good enough for me. It is quite the happening place at night! The staff was great. Concierge was a bit slow to answer the phone, but it all worked out fine. We had a "cozy" room, and it was fine...... We didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Most of all, bed was great as were the pillows! The room was well stocked with snacks and beer and wine, of which we did not partake, way too expensive . But I highly recommend the W, especially if you are wanting to be close to theater and love walking in the city. Great delis close by to get breakfast and lunch too.
