So as an SPG Platinum, I've come to expect certain things from a W Hotel - it tries a little hard, it feels like a nightclub, but typically a nice hotel, very well kept, great service, rooms are nice if you can get an upgrade especially...

This W does not live up the brand. We went to NY for a show and although the location is perfect -walking distance to lots of restaurants, shopping, Central Park, the hotel is old underneath all that flashy decor. You can see it in the paneling and the floors and the doors. The rooms are TINY TINY TINY. We were upgraded to third level of room - "Superior" .. superior WHAT? I get the hotel was full, there was a wedding and of course the hurricane displaced people. The bed itself was comfortable.

The bathroom was so small and the lights kept flickering! The closet was actually as big as the bathroom, but the light didn't work.

My favorite part of the stay: Sunday morning - for 60 minutes, a loud, horrible, blaring noise coming from two doors down. I called and asked about it - was told security was on it, and maybe 20 minutes later I heard W staff working on it. Upon checking out, we asked about it .. no answer, no response.

I also was curious about the security of the hotel. Every night, they had people standing at the elevators asking to see our room keys. The elevators had a place to put your key, that was technically required to get onto the guest level floors, but it didn't seem to work. What was happening at that hotel that they had THREE guys standing at the elevators?

Save your points, save your dollars, stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Beg for an upgrade - Mega or higher!

We arrived after a red-eye flight from LA and were allowed to check in early. Although we didn't have a great view, and there is construction across the street, we were not disturbed by noise. It was a little difficult getting around the construction of the building, but after a couple times, all was good. I love the decor; and although small, the room was comfortable. I had never stayed downtown before, and probably wouldn't again. Too hard to get around and too many subway lines closed.

The Room was small but had everything we needed. The Service at the Hotel was excellent. The Doormen are very friendly. The Hotel Bar is also very nice. The Location is fantastic with nice restaurants etc.

Whilst we were very happy to find a room to cover the 3 day delay caused by Sandy we found the hotel looking tired and in need of an update. the room and bed were small for two and again a bit shabby. That being said, the staff coped very well in such extreme circumstances and should be applauded in dealing with so many extra guests, not to mention dogs.

Would I stay there again, no I don't think so despite the convenient location, there are so many better hotels at this price.

Was a disappointing weekend stay. Everything just seemed "off". Quite early on the Friday evening we were having cocktails and tapas in the lounge bar and there was pleasant low volume chill out music playing in the background. Then the DJ upped the volume so much we actually had to ask the staff to have it turned down (& no we aren't old fogies!!). It was so unnecessary as the lounge was almost empty and most guests were clearly enjoying a quiet drink. The rooms are small - but so are most NYC hotel rooms but ok. The concierge was super helpful at getting us a booking at a Michelin star restaurant on short notice and most other staff were great until we were leaving. Our town car was waiting on a side street and we couldn't find a bellboy to assist us with a trolley full of luggage (three of us). We eventually found him out on the street counting his tips. He begrudgingly took our trolley and recklessly wheeled it out onto the street. Next thing my laptop and camera bag falls off the trolley onto the sidewalk. No apology or even look of concern...... Then with the next push my suitcase tumbles off into the gutter. STILL no apology. He was rude, careless and clearly not the right person for a key service role in a top hotel. It ruined my whole stay.
