“A Charming and Graceful Hotel”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

The Mark is a large hotel but has all the charm, friendliness and warmth of what one expects in a small boutique hotel. The renovation done about four years ago has transformed it into a high-end modern hotel. Its location in a quiet neighborhood close to Central Park, Madison Ave., and the Museum Mile makes it an even more attractive place to stay in.The efficient staff, without being pretentious, all genuinely desire that guests enjoy their stay. One of the many other amenities of this hotel is the famed chef Vongerichten's eponymous restaurant: "Jean-Georges."

Just back from an amazing experience at the Mark in New York’s upper East Side, my second stay there since they reopened and thrilled to see how much better it has gotten. It is amazing how this little gem captures the new and the old allure of this fabulous neighborhood on New York. Between the high-end shops of Madison Avenue and Central Park, the Mark has an exciting bar which always attracts a chic, who’s-who crowd. The lobby is small but chic and the staff there couldn’t be warmer. The Jean George restaurant is a destination in itself. Upstairs, room are just beautiful. You really feel like you are in your own [million dollar] apartment. Its the refined details and touches that will make you fall in love with this place, not to mention the BEST shower I have ever had in my life. Careful… set aside at least 20 minutes for every shower you take there.

Room Tip: Go for a 77 king or city suite

We stayed for 3 days in July. This hotel exceeded our expectations in every category imaginable. The room was elegant. The entire staff from front desk to housekeeping was professional and extremely friendly. The hotel was far enough away from the noise of Times Square but close enough for us to enjoy everything that you want to see in New York City. It is very close to all the major museums. When we visit again, The Mark will be the only hotel we will consider.

Stayed here together with a friend for a weekend of fun and shopping. What a wonderful hotel! We were lucky enough to be upgraded to their largest suite. Two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a large livingroom, a diningtable and a full Boffi Kitchen. The suite even had its own laundryroom. The design is extremely elegant in a classic Art Deco meets Chanel way and everything is kept in top condition. The level of detail put in to the design in everything from the stationary to the bed linen is amazing. Top notch service from the entire staff and the perfect level of courtesy combined with a personal touch. I honestly can not find a single thing that I would change and that is rare. If you are looking for an elegant but contemporary hotel on Upper East Side this is the one. This will definitely be my hotel of choice when in New York.

I booked this hotel after reading the reviews. I booked a courtyard view due to some of the comments about the noise from the busy streets nearby. We were upgraded to a view of 77th, which turned out to be awesome! I did not hear any noise from the streets below. (We were on the 4th floor.) The room was spacious & clean. The bathroom had every ammenity, including a large bathtub and towel warmer. The hair dryer in the room didn't work, so when we called to request a replacement, they brought one up within 5 minutes. We received a turn-down service every night, which was nice. The service all around was exceptional. The hotel was located very close to Central Park.

We just came back from a wonderful weekend in New York with our two small children. The Mark was perfect. It's small and comfortable, far enough from the touristy insanity of Times Square and Fifth Avenue/50's yet central enough to get anywhere within minutes.
The rooms are beautiful, clean and very comfortable. The macarons at turn down service were a special treat!
The location can't be beat. Right on the corner of Madison Avenue, the hotel is walking distance from all the great boutiques. One block in the other direction is Central Park, close enough to walk to the zoo with the kids and a playground. Close to several museums and minutes by cab to Times Square, Bloomingdales, Empire State Building, Broadway theatres.
We loved the Mark and would highly recommend it for people travelling with children of any age!

Room Tip: Next time I would ask for a room in the back of the hotel, to avoid the noise of the garbage trucks...
