“My favorite place in New York!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2011

This is one of the most charming, beautiful, luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in NY. Every details were thought to make your stay absolutely astonishing. Interior style is the top of refinement signed by famous French decorator Jacque Grange, bathrooms are a total dream, the restaurant by famous Jean-Georges is one of the best and the bar is the 'place to be'. Service is perfect and everything you want they make it happen! In the neighborhood, just cross the street and you will be at the most high end clothes and accessories selection at Intermix, Juicy Couture or Gagosian Shop at the ground level of the famous gallery, all the best museums of the city are just around the corner. I highly recommend this fabulous hotel to anyone who wants to make his trip unforgettable

I checked into the hotel around 3. Reception person asked me when I expected to check out following day (odd -- already thinking about me leaving, rather than welcoming me). I had no idea how a casual response to that question -- "around noon" -- would later come back to me. Keep reading. Bellman escorted me to the room, carrying bag. Plopped in the corner of the room, quickly left (with tip I gave him). I discovered the luggage rack in the closet and set it up myself (Four Seasons bellman would have set it up for me). Room was on 6th floor. "Garden view" which was more of a view of the rooftop AC units. Lovely carpet in the room. Bedroom furnishings nice -- stylish -- but somewhat predictable. Bathroom -- loved it, except the uncomfortable toilet. Next day, left early. Doorman stood chatting to a colleague while I tried to open (it wasn't easy) the large, heavy doors. Cold and wet outside. No offer of a loaner umbrella (bellman still chatting with colleague). Came back to hotel to pack bags and leave around 1145. Card would not open door. Went to front desk. Abruptly told that the card doesn't work because "you told us you were checking out at noon". I flashed them my phone -- which showed not yet noon. They then renewed the card. Went back up to room. Literally, sitting on uncomfortable toilet when phone starts ringing at 1205. I suspected it was the front desk. Did not pick up. Phone rang again a minute later. I then gathered my belongings and checked out at 1210. No thank you. No, "it was a pleasure having you", no "was everything to your liking". None of that. Just -- "do you need a paper copy of your bill?" (I don't really, but might suggest an alternative way of asking "May we offer you a paper copy of your statement?" Bottom line - service not there. One exception -- the concierge was extremely helpful with a great recommendation for lunch (just around the corner -- small upscale italian gourmet deli/restaurant). After a great lunch, he helped me retrieve my luggage, etc.. He gets it.

Room Tip: Get a room above 7th floor.

We spent the night at the Mark in a 77 room. Didn't eat there, use any of the facilities, or had drinks at the bar (it was hopping when we checked in late at night) - except for in-room breakfast (good but not spectacular). The room is fantastic and very well appointed - I love the design. The only downside is the electronic controls (TV, etc.) which were too difficult to figure out and didn't work properly. A bit too high tech for my taste. The room could also use a tea/coffee maker (or Nespresso - don't think it did (but not 100% sure).

I've stayed a week at The Mark and loved it to pieces. It's a charming little boutique hotel, with a very small lobby, that compensates with style what it lacks in size. Jacques Grange redesigned the property and the result is a very chic and glamorous urban retreat in an ecletic art deco/modernist style, slickly avoiding the stuffiness of it's older neighbors like the Carlyle or the Pierre.
I was hesitant at first between The Surrey and The Mark, but believe me, the former pales in comparison, at least design wise (obviously cheaper though).
The service is personalized and impeccable, the friendly staff being of the utmost correction and courteousness, among the highest standard of service I've experienced.
The rooms are delightful, very elegant and soothing with abundant closet space, comfortable seating, and a most fabulous bathroom. I especially loved the upholstered bed heads.
The bar is a busy spot, and the restaurant (part of the ubiquitous Vongerichten empire) is excellent, be sure to seat under the skylight, surrounded by the limestone pillar and stained glass.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else on the Upper East Side, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I recently surprised my husband for his birthday at The Mark Hotel. The staff was superb in planning the surprise. The room was beautiful and very quiet which is my biggest requirement in New York City. I surprised him with a couples massage and the therapists were highly trained and professional. Jean Georges' newest restaurant at the hotel was delicious - drinks were very creative - definitely try their home-made ginger soda - so yummy! The bar is very chic and one feels like quite a sophisticated traveler in having picked the Mark, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet a hop, skip away from where you need to be.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel!! The concierge Lenord was one of the best concierge I have experienced in a long time. He bent over backwards for us, was beyond friendly and was also humorous. The rooms were superb in everyway, the whole works.Buttons galore! Love the mini bar and the trendy meets upper east side flair. my new favorite NYC hotel. Beats the stuffy St.Regis & Carlyle anyday.

The only problem was they didnt have a spa.... The Surrey spa next door I highly recommend.
