“NYC's Best”
Reviewed April 11, 2012

I've stayed many times. It is in a convenient location especially if you wish to avoid the bustle of Midtown - yet only 2 stops on the express subway which is almost outside. but a good reason for staying is the staff. Always helpful and charming. And whilst the prices are not the cheapest in the area - they are the best value. Clean rooms with fridges and microwaves, comfortable beds, tv ensuite if you wish with some sharing a full bathroom with one other room. The area has some great restaurants and you feel like you are staying in NYC as a local. Central Park is just three blocks away - take your trainers and go jogging with the locals!

I definitely thank you for your review sir! I truly believe that what sets us apart from all other hotels is our down to earth staff. We encourage them to be natural with guests and not cookie cutter. That may work for some hotels but we want our guests to have the feeling of home and we hope you do when you visit us. We will see you soon

Honestly, I was scared to stay in the Hotel Newton after reading TripAdvisor reviews. But it's nice! The front desk staff was always friendly and helpful. The entire hotel is spic-and-span clean. And my room was huge, with two full beds, an oversized bathroom and a huge extra area -- plus a wet bar. I'd like a safe in the room (they're adding that) and a fitness room with at least a treadmill, but you get what you pay for, right? This place was dirt cheap compared to comporably NYC hotels and all the basics were done well.

We stayed in a double room for 4 nights on the 9th floor. I agree with other reviews that the rooms are small but it's new York, what do you expect? Also we hardly spent any time in the hotel and the bed was very comfortable.

We also had a shared bathroom which worked out fine, we never saw anyone else in there and it was always clean.

The staff at the front desk were very helpful with directions, tourist info and booking taxis.

It was a nice location away from midtown but it did take about 45 minutes to walk there, although its a nice wall through central park. The subway station is also just outside and only takes 10 minutes to get to midtown.

Only downfall is that the elevator broke down for one day but who can help electrics.

We would definitely stay again.

Couldn't ask for a better location for the price. Great neighborhood to explore and the subway is literally right out of the door. Reception was friendly and the room was clean. Honestly for New York, this place is a hidden gem.

The Hotel Newton is a great No Frills hotel. The rooms are very small but clean, safe, and modern. The hotel is located in the upper West side, but the express subway stop right out front makes the hotel very convenient. Nice neighborhood with Starbucks, CVS, Walgreens, and a variety of restaurants and cafes.

Great value for the money !!!!!!!

We knew that the deal we got was was good so we were not expecting much. Trip Advisor reviews had said that the rooms were small but clean - that was acceptable and the rooms were small and clean. In fact the rooms had a fridge, a microwave, coffee facilities - but no bathroom. We did expect a bathroom!

When we checked, we found that the small print on the booking form said that room type could not be guarenteed, but if a hotel has a 3 star rating, which it did, we presumed that a bathroom would be included in the room price - not so (in this day for goodness sake!). So it was a shared bathroom with who knows who.

Then there was the smell. A huge amount of air freshner or something highly scented made it horrible to breath - for someone with asthma a real trigger for an attack. We had to leave the window wide open to deal with the smell (was it covering something up - this was hard to tell). Luckily the weather suited having the window open as it was not too hot or not too cold outside. There was also no air con that we could see, so the heat would be dreadful in the summer.

Finally when we did venture into the bathroom to chance a shower there was no hot water. Calls to reception revealed that there would not be any for several hours .......

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a bathroom!

I thank you for your recent comments and I sincerely apologize if it seems that your were mislead in any way. We have several companies that sell our shared bath but only have about 12 rooms. all companies however put in bold that the room is shared bath as there would never just be a small print at the bottom. As there are many 3 star properties that have this option, we make it exceptionally clear in every area that it is a shared bath and the rate hovers about $50/night on average lower than the next room type. We would never as a hotel try to misrepresent our room types. I will apologize for the smell of the cleansers as I myself have sometimes been bothered by hotel commercial cleansers. If you ever have an issue however, please call our desk and we would be more than happy to alert our housekeeping department not to spray the odorizers in the room as we always want you to be comfortable. If you had any other issues please feel free to contact me.

Based on Trip Advisor reviews we decided to stay in this hotel.we were not disappointed.Very friendly and helpful at reception, we were also upgraded. Rooms clean and tidy, bed comfortable, carpets could be refurbished, bathroom excellent...good price for manhatten.10 minute ride from Times Square, take the 2 or 3 lines.....Plenty of local restaurants to eat in....also on the uptown greyline.....this is a good hotel and as I said made all the better by reception staff.
