“Can't beat the price for a clean room, breakfast, nice area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

I spent two nights at the Chelsea Savoy in September - this review is overdue. The room had two double beds and adequate space. The room was quiet and clean. There is a small lobby downstairs but not a loungy one. The breakfast is served in what appeared to be a bar or restaurant which was not in use during the hours my group was at the hotel. It was where he simple continental breakfast - included - was served. The hotel was conveniently located for access to subways, and groceries were available at Whole Foods within two blocks. A moderate walk to the Village. When we stayed it was about $200 per night. Friends I went with returned recently and the room was even cheaper.

... to stay in NYC if you want to be close to action, aka Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Macy’s, Empire State Building and so on. However you should bear in mind that you’re not going to be in the middle of the action, especially because it is not a good idea be there in a daily basis, occasionally to go there it is acceptable – the Big Apple is much more than that.
The CSH is located in Chelsea district which is within a walking distance to those previously mentioned spots but it is a “calm” area (translated = not overwhelmed with tourists). It is at corner of 23rd and 7th Ave. and it will offer you 5 subways lines for your convenience. The facilities around the hotel are amazing in terms of shops, restaurants, delis, markets, drugstores.
The hotel itself is quite simple but it offers you all you need for a base for a great visit to the city. It is immaculate, in a very safe area and the whole staff is very polite and attentive – without being inquisitive.
The check-in was seamless as well as the check-out. And If you arrive early you can store your luggage there (without a charge) till your time to check-in. I made all the reservation by email and I advise you to choose a room facing the inner part of the hotel. You know, NYC is rather noisy. My room was 614. I stayed there for 3 weeks in a quadruple for a couple and my adult son. We paid for the first 2 weeks U$ 243.66 p/n – at the beginning of December (high season = top prices). The room size is adequate for two beds, there’s a desk with a mini fridge underneath. There’s also air-conditioned which you have full access to control it, in other words, you decide to turn it on/off. The bathroom has a bathtub, but we only use the shower which has an adequate water pressure. It has also a hairdryer and the usual toiletry stuff – hydrating creams, shampoos, soaps etc. There’s a flat TV with some cable channels. As bonus the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast – before you start complaining about its quality – remember that’s quite unusual for hotels this practice, unless you pay good money for it. Some bagels, black coffee, milk and hot chocolate, that’s all you’re going to have. Normally I take for my breakfast, cheese, sliced bread (there’s a toaster there), and improved it a little and save some bucks. There lots of delis and markets for purchasing /having breakfast nearby.
The only downside is there’s no free internet. However I learned that the whole Chelsea district will have free Wi-Fi offered by Google (needed to be checked)

Transfer from JFK: get an ordinary yellow taxi to the hotel (flat fare U$52 plus tolls and taxes, the total is around U$ 59 plus 15% tip). Get used to tips, there are ubiquitous in NYC. To return to JFK you can ask the hotel front staff to arrange you a car – you negotiate the fare before you go – depending of the number of pieces of luggage and passengers.
Recommendations:
MARKETS: Garden of Eden, Whole Foods
FOOD: Just Salad (for salads and wraps), Doughnut Plant (for the best doughnuts in the city), Dallas BBQ (for Chili’s bowls), Murray’s Bagels (for bagels), Shake Shack (one of the best burger joints in NYC), Maruko Sushis (for sushis), Grimaldi (for pizzas), Eataly (a piece of Italy in NYC – coffee, desserts, restaurants, market)
SHOPS: Best Buy (for electronics), Burlington (for coats) Bed, Bath and Beyond (for these stuff)
DRUGSTORE: Duane Reade
Googlle : 204 West 23rd Street New York, NY 10011, United States, and then spot those addresses in the map – the best of the bunch.

For a family of four we found this room to be a good size. Furnishings were basic but quite adequate. The hotel was clean. Staff did their job, but were not overly friendly. The hotel was in a very convenient location to the subway, which made for easy access to the city. There were also many places to eat nearby, and many city attractions in walking distance. I have only given 'sleep quality' 3 stars because there were no block out curtains, but overall I recommend this hotel.

I loved our stay in Chelsea Savoy. Nice location with a subway station literally around the corner. The rooms are clean and the reception are nice. Even the breakfast is nice considering the price you pay to stay in such a good location.

I would definitely come back to this hotel.

I'm a bit reluctant to write a review for Chelsea Savoy as I really would like to keep this as a secret every time I chance upon a trip to the Big Apple!
Conveniently located in Chelsea on the corner W 23rd St and 7th ave, subway right across the street, reasonably priced, absolutely HUGE rooms by NYC standards, its cleanliness and plenty of eateries around the corner (hello 24hr Malibu Diner!) make this my hotel of choice in Manhattan.

It depends on what you are looking for in the city. If you want luxury and $500/night- not happening here.
It's a GREAT location with the subway across the street. There are plenty of places around to eat and drink at also(an Irish pub next door!) The room was big enough, clean and yes, a bit old but all we did was sleep and shower there. Note: it was the only hotel I could find with two double beds. I didn't notice the staff being particularly unfriendly. They did their job fine. I'll go back.
