Visited Campbell Apartment all suited and booted as dress code is smart. Great setting right outside Grand Central. Had a MadMen type feel to the place with a 1930's art deco style theme.

Cocktail menu is excellent. I had a Kentucky Ginger which was brilliant. Price not too bad for the type of high class bar. $15.50 + service per drink.

Far too busy though. We could hardly get to the bar, let alone order a drink and enjoy without being crushed. The private area behind us had loads of seats free but no one sitting on them. The rest of the bar crowded and the staff other than the barman, barged past you to collect orders from reserved seats.

If you like being crushed then this is for you, if not then there are plenty of other great bars in the area.

Loved the architecture. Martinis were good. We ordered the cheese platter. it was good for 4 people to nibble on. We sat on a bench. great looking but not super comfortable. overall, we had a good time and would return again but there are so many more places to try in NYC!

What is there to dislike, had the most amazing cocktails. Come from the UK so the tartan decor was fine by me.

We like to go to NYC and find unusual spots. A friend took us to the Campbell Apartment next to Grand Central Station. I did not know that the Vanderbilt's had allowed Campbell to live in the apartment. While the history behind the Station is interesting, the bar and sitting area is VERY loud. You cannot hear the person next to you and each of us has strong vocals. During the holidays, forget good service for their pricey drinks. On the plus side, one hostess took us upstairs to sit at one of the five tables overlooking the main apartment bar area. Nice upstairs if you want to hold a conversation. According to our friend, the crowd is usually an "after-work" group. DO NOT GO HERE DURING BIG HOLIDAYS!

Turned up on two occasions on a recent visit to Manhattan - both times it was closed for a private function - will never bother again
