“Nice Meal - Reasonable Prices”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

On our visit to New York this past weekend we had dinner at Laut. This is a very good Aisian restaurant located near Union Square. They were very accomodating. We were a group of five and a large table was not available at the time of our booking so they allowed us to be seated at a smaller table until a larger more comfortable space was available. it is not often you would ge this courtesy and it was nice

The food is tasty. We ordered a few apptizers and several entres for the table. Thje signature starter is a fried bread that you dip into a curry sauce. This is a little unusual but everyone loved it. I would reccomend starting with this.

We had a curry chicken dish , wide noodles, fried rice, and one of the special comfination entres. it was all very well prepared and everyone in our party was satisfied. The menu is extensive and has a variety of different Aisian specialties. Plenty of food!

The wine list is not extnsive but it is completely adequate for Aisian food. We ordered an Argentinian white that worked really well with the collection of dishes we ordered. The prices are reasonable. Including the wime the bill was about $125 for fine people - pretty decent in Midtown. It is a little loud but not bad and i would look at it as a nice satisfied buzz rather than a distraction. Go and enjoy!!

“Consistently Delicious Malaysian”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We've eaten here a few times and it never disappoints. The food is wonderful, prices are reasonable and service is prompt. Great appetizers include the Roti Canai and Chili Tofu. We had excellent Pad Thai, Shrimp Salad and Malaysian Curry.

“Most disappointing...avoid!!!”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Went there for lunch with a friend and was very impressed with the selection of menu and the aggressive pricing. We ordered a Pad Thai noodles, a Chicken Sambal and a couple of lemonades. Had high expections from the place, but was truly disappointed. The chicken sambal was nothing like what a sambal should taste like and the pad thai (the simplest of thai dishes) was lacklustre too...the lemonades were the ones that saved the day. Paid approximately USD 35 for a meal for two but the cost is really not the criterion...the meal was simpy disappointing. Never again. Avoid and go elsewhere!!!

“Wonderful meal”
Reviewed October 23, 2012 via mobile

We chose this restaurant somewhat in desperation. It was pretty full, and had a number ratings stickers in the window. We had the duck tamarind and halibut with baby bok choy. both were wonderful. We get a wide variety of Asian restaurants in Australia so we are not unfamiliar with this style. It was not surprising to see that it was 2011 and 2012 Michelin recommended.

“Very mediocre Malaysian food. Not worth it...”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

A group of four of us went there for dinner on Oct 8th. We ordered three appetizers: satay, pork shumai, Penang Lobak. -
(1) Satay was good but not enough dipping sauce.
(2) Pork shumai portions were microscopic but tasty
(3) Penang Lobak was ok.
For the main meal, we ordered Char koew teow (verdict: good), Char Hor Fun (which they had some other name for, verdict: ok), Nasi lemak (verdict: lousy!), and some claypot dish with chicken and pork and taufoo (verdict: lousy).
For dessert, we had Nasi Inti (Horrible!), and Mango Sticky Rice (OK).

Ambiance was so-so. All in all, I cannot recommend this place at all. If you really need Malaysian food, go to Nyonya. Their menu is more authentic and dishes are tastier. The only downside of Nyonya is that they only take cash - no credit cards!
