Owner description: The New York City Fire Museum is the official museum of the FDNY.Occupying a renovated 1904 Beaux‐Arts firehouse at 278 Spring Street in Hudson Square, west of SoHo, the museum is home to a renowned collection of fire‐related art and artifacts from the 18th century to the present; including hand‐pumped fire engines, horse‐drawn vehicles, early motorized apparatus and firefighting tools and equipment.

The museum is rather small but is very nicely done. It offers old fire engines to look at, and a touching 9/11 memorial room. You can also try on some FDNY gear. Unfortunately, that was the only interactive feature - it would have been nice if my son could actually climb on a fire engine (which you can do at the FDNY Fire Zone by Rockefeller Center). The staff was really friendly. All in all, well worth a visit, especially with kids.

Worth a trip and admission is $8. 911 exhibit is good and you can try on real FDNY clothing and fire hats. A shop with all your merchandise and tshirts. They are a little expensive and you can get them cheaper elsewhere. However the most unhelpful male assistant can be found here which is worth a visit on its own. Very informative and worth a trip

My husband and I were a little more interested than my 5 year old, but well worth the experience.
