It’s the only reason I would go to Time’s Square!! It’s garish commercial and not reflective of the real NYC. But for first timers it’s worth seeing to rule it out!! There is so much more to see in NYC.

Because it is so busy. You will spend more time weaving your way through rude tourists than you will enjoying looking up at the oversized, illuminated billboards.
There's so much going on here that you will be overwhelmed with choice - lots of shops, food, street sellers and attractions but it sure is a sight to behold. Worth it just for the experience.

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis at Times Square which was enjoyable. It is a nice hotel and within walking distance to many attractions. It is also close to many subway stations which will take you anywhere you would need to go. They are clean but of course just dated. If you intend to ride it often, I would get a Metro-card that has an unlimited ride amount on it. There are some homeless and people asking for money for various reasons but that is to be expected and not a huge deal. We had a great time eating at various restaurants, seeing various sites and the people for the most part are nice and courteous. We were there during New Years Eve and waiting on the street with many others to be a part of the whole experience! Its a bucket list thing that we wanted to do and I'm glad that we did. If you decide to do this, get there no later than 12:00 pm to get a decent spot but be prepared for it. If you leave the corral for any reason that the police put you into, you cannot get back into it. We will be returning in the near future to finish some site seeing, etc.
