Time Square sums up everything we were dreading about New York - loud, brash, vulgar, crowded, edgy, ugly, OTT. Fortunately, the rest of the city is very different. I suppose it has to be seen and experienced, but don't loiter. New York is full of wonderful treasures (Met Museum, Frick Collection, Central Library, Lincoln Center etc etc) so don't loiter here unless to go to the half price theater ticket booth (but there's also one at Lincoln Center and another down by the docks).

It's worth seeing, but avoid the people in costumes, people selling comedy shows and other scammers. It's very noisy and a lot going on.

Well worth a visit, very busy though. See Bloomingdales, Macy’s, sacks as well as Empire State Building.

The lights at night make it look like day time. There are thousands of people hustling all around. It is a sight both at night and during the day, I liked it better at night. There are countless stores to shop from unique brands to tourist shops.

Times Square is THE place where it all happens. Meeting place, people wall to wall, neon lights and a party 24/7.

Other than Hong Kong and the Ginza, there's no place to see the array of flashy billboards like in Times Square. There are some places to sit in good weather, plenty of people watching, and decent shopping and dining. I just like grabbing something from a food truck, sitting down, and enjoying the tourists.
