We heard about the Frick Collection from an art student we met on the airport tram, of all things. So glad we went. It's similar in some ways to the Borghese Gallery in Rome - once an elegant residence for a collector and lover of art. Much of the art is displayed as Mr. Frick originally placed it. Highly recommend this museum to art lovers.

Outstanding art collection all presented in a beautiful mansion. The audio guide (no charge) gives good commentary on the art and home. An oasis of beauty!

For a small ($17) fee, you can get a glimpse of the life of the American aristocracy. The interior of this home is very impressive, as are the collections of art on display. We went on a Sunday and there were students participating in an open sketching session in the courtyard, with all supplies provided by Museum staff. The portraits of Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell (advisors to King Henry VIII) facing each other across the fireplace are amazing. I liked it more than the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

If you haven´t time enough during your stay in N.Y. to see all the large museums, choose this one . It is really good and interesting and you will see not only some masterpieces from Rembarndt, Vermemer , Manet and many more , but also a very interesting private villa from the beginning of 20´th century . You can see and deduct how this first really rich industrial WASP generation thought about. You will receive during your vist a very good audio guide.
