This is a lovely small museum - you can tour it in an hour - but the xhibits and collection are good, and the building is fabulous!

Rembrands on every wall. An incredible collection of paintings, sketches, watercolours, sculptures and porcelaine. All in a beautiful home. Regular entry is $18pp but worth it. Plus opposite Central Park so enjoy both.

This mansion museum has always been a gem on the upper East Side of Manhattan. Full of gorgeous decorative arts, and not a few painting masterpieces, it's the perfect place for a rainy afternoon (or a sunny one).

A great historic rail baron's mansion full of the great art he managed to collect. So many masterpieces! Do not miss the portraits of Thomas More and Cromwell on both sides of the fireplace. Every other museum on Earth would kill to have them. Often interesting exhibits downstairs, not that seeing the permanent collection for the fifth time is boring!

Great collection in an amazing building! Most tourists would of course first visit the Guggenheim and MoMa but this smaller museum is absolutely worth a visti.
