Owner description: Just a short walk from Grand Central and Penn Station, the Morgan is a major exhibition venue for fine art, literature, and music, one of New York's great historic sites, and a wonderful place to dine, shop, and attend a concert or film.

I was visiting family in new York City' and had an opportunity to visit the Morgan Library on 36th St. -( find out days and hours to avoid disappointment.) This museum is often overlooked in favor of the big museums. This wonderful building was the home of J. Pierpont Morgan; and in addition to his spectacular library, there are many well-known and rare paintings and sculptures. Also a delightful dining room in the glass enclosed atrium. The root vegetables soup was particularly good, as were the desserts.

Never any huge crowds - there is time to view almost all exhibits. Some paintings you know but never knew where they were housed.

You will notice right on the first sight the history behind this library. JP itself was a collector and he admired the european culture. You will be able to find rare books, paintings, sculptures and objects. Don't leave NY without visiting it.

Pierpont Morgan's library is a treat to visit during the day. You feel like you are in Europe with the ceiling coming from Florence. The antiquities, potraits, and books can be viewed up close within a 20 minute time frame. Don't miss the other room that holds the seals collection which are carved out of semi precious stone. I was not familiar with them so what an interesting collection. The cafe is supposed to be great as well for lunch and brunch.

I only wish there were more books opened for display to view. Beautiful setting, I'm glad I went. I guess I expected more as I went to the Frick the day before.
