This beautiful old mansion has gorgeous woodwork and other architectural details, as well as marvelous exhibits. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the city for a while and want to visit a few museums.

“J.P. Morgan's House”

I liked this little gem in Murray Hill. The house is delightful and the museum with the Gutenberg bible is worth seeing.

“An absolute aesthetic treat and privilege”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

One of the great NYC experiences period -- take it from a former European who has been exposed to more than his fair share of high art and has lived in the city for 25 years. I had been dying to visit ever since the 2010 renovation. Kudos to the powers that be in restoring this hallowed place back to its former glory. Journey back in time to grand old New York and soak up the artistic treasures that are housed within the awe-inspiring home of JP Morgan, the great financier who perhaps more than any other person was responsible for bringing the American economy to preeminence. The library in particular is so grand and full of spirit that it makes one think of the sistine chapel. Even the illiterate amongst us would be inspired to pick up a book.

The cafe in the beautifully designed extension by Renzo Piano was also top notch with a a good selection of lunch items such as salads and sandwiches. We also enjoyed the other exhibits, particularly the Rembrandt drawings..but the best thing of all was the distinct lack of crowds. We felt like we had the place to ourselves but then again, it is February, the most underrated time to visit NYC for those who might want to avoid the crowds.

Photography and cell phone use is not tolerated...

“Always a winner”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

The exhibitions are magnificent, usually are shown in one gallery, so the size is right. And the cafe and the restaurant serve lovely food.
There are excellent choices in the gift shop.
