If you like medieval art this is the place to go. The collection they have is outstanding. You can see it all in a few hours. The setting is one the hill overlooking the Hudson. Very pretty in the Fall or Spring. You can bring lunch and picnic outside or eat in the open courtyard. Restaurant is reasonable. Make sure you stop at the gift store. They have a lot of unusual gifts and jewelry.

The Cloisters Museum is in far north Manhattan. It is a part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and tickets are good inboth if you go to both museums on one day. It is a little tough to get there...A train...and you have to walk through a beautiful park to get to the entrance. But once you get there, you will forget that you are in Manhattan. It seems like a world away. Across the river is a beautiful setting....forest...that is gorgeous in the fall in full color. It is so peaceful to go to this museum. Once inside, this small gem of a museum is a delight. The ancient columns that were put together from various spots around the world, look like they belong until you look closely. The Unicorn tapestries are world famous and you will recognize them They are on the Met shopping bags. But i love the medicinal garden. So fun to see what plants were used to treat disease once upon a time. And again, the views are remarkable. Well worth making your way up to the top of Manhattan to visit

Hop on the A train and go north, north, north to 190th St. Take a nice 10 minute walk through a forest and enjoy the incredible views...and you'll find yourself at The Cloisters. It's hard to believe that this museum is part of the NYC metro area---very tranquil. The artwork is captivating. If you can make it there by 12/8/13, you can see/hear Janet Cardiff's 40 Part Motet (which is worth a trip to NYC on its own).
