“Chagall Exhibit was fabulous! ”
Reviewed July 10, 2014 via mobile

The two times I have been to the Jewish Museum, I was there to see a special exhibit. For example, most recently, I went to see a Chagall exhibit with my wife, her mom, her brother and his family. The exhibit was extraordinary, and solely on that basis, I give the museum high marks.

Next time I will make a point of seeing the museum's permanent collection!

“Great Exhibits!”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

There was wonderful Judaica from around the world, all beautifully displayed. The "conceptual" art by Mel Bochner was very interesting. We also had a delicious lunch there. A most enjoyable visit.

We only had 90 minutes which was insufficient for this very rich experience. The history and artifacts presented in the permanent collections presented a very insightful perspective on the driving forces of Jewish thinking and life over the centuries. The dynamic tension between the core set of beliefs and the "host cultures" in which Jews find themselves is manifested in the artifacts shared throughout the exhibit.

We worth a second and third visit.

“Great for adults and children”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

The top (fourth) floor has some fun interactive activities for young children. We started there, and continued on down. We liked everything, and it combines art and Jewish history. A really nice, small museum that you will enjoy, and takes only an hour to visit. A block away, there is a great french restaurant, "Table d’Hôte," on 92nd St, which is $$$, not inexpensive, but extremely high quality with sidewalk dining. The quiet neighborhood lulls you into thinking you are in Paris!
Some days are free, check their website.

“Visit the Jewish Museum for Jewish Heritage and Modern Art”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

For Jews and non-Jews, the Jewish Museum is well worth a visit. The permanent exhibit traces the rich history and culture of the Jewish people through documents, art and artifacts. In addition, the museum has a rich, continuing series of exhibits exploring the work of Jewish artists and the complex relationship between the Judaism and the modern art world. These are always well-researched, carefully-presented and stimulating in content. Israeli Art has been an ongoing focus of many of these exhibits. For Jews, the museum provides many avenues for exploring one's history, heritage, culture and modern experience. Non-Jews can learn about one of the world's great religious traditions and it's history and culture.
