“High walkability score (Chinatown/Little Italy area)”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Located at the crossroads between Chinatown and Little Italy, this hotel gets high points for it's great walkability score. Subway lines are within 2 blocks but since there was such beautiful weather, we enjoyed walking to the adjacent neighborhoods instead. Recent renovations have made this hotel very modern and bright. Lots of shops and eateries around to fit all budgets. There was free continental breakfast included but our choice was to try the terrific dim sum served all around there. The front desk staff (Hugh) was extremely pleasant and friendly. We arrived extremely early in the day and he stored our bags while we explored the area for a few hours. Check in was not until 4pm but he let us check in at 1pm. The room had lots of natural light streaming in (love!) and was much more spacious than I was expecting for NYC. Super clean room with soft, fresh smelling sheets/towels. Would stay here again especially due to the price in comparison to midtown hotels with similar packages (free breakfast, free internet). Great value.

Stayed here for the weekend with college girlfriends. The hotel was clean, offered a typical continental breakfast, and was very close to Soho and Little Italy. Almost in the heart of Chinatown.

I wouldn't stay here again. Just something about it I didn't like. Once we walked away from the immediate area it was ok.

Room was nice, recently renovated. Though not large there was enough storage space for a weeks worth of clothes for the two of us. Reception staff in particular we're friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Breakfast room was small and busy but always managed to get a seat in a few minutes. Good selection of food (waffles, breads, cakes, fruit, porridge, cereal, tea, coffee, juice) all of which were kept stocked up so you didn't miss out. They're happy for you to take food up to your room.
Free Internet was a little hit and miss, if it was busy you couldn't always get logged on but there were 2 computers in reception with a printer which was really helpful for printing out tickets.
Gym equipment on the 10th floor was fine, generally quiet, great view of the city skyline at sunrise/set, water machine, towels provided, music playing.
Yes there are road works outside (looks like it will be going on longer!) but we were on the 5th floor and it wasn't an issue as they don't start too early and were always finished before we returned.
Food stalls outside on the street were great value and really tasty. Huge punnet of strawberries for 1dollar, apples the size of melons and the every fish you could imagine.
Great supermarket 5 minutes walk up Bowery (natural foods market) huge with seating upstairs where they sell healthy eat in options.
Subway at grand street was 2 minutes away but only 1 line so limited destinations. We found it better to walk (5mins) to Canal Street with the option of 5 lines.
Overall, great. Yes not close to the "sites" but NYC is not cheap and the money saved staying in Chinatown is then used for entry to the museums etc. and staying in Chinatown/little Italy is a great experience.
Tip - any museum owned by the state can't charge for entry. Look at the small print and you will find the entry cost will say "suggested". Get to the Empire State early ie before 10 and pay for the fast track ticket it really is worth the extra money.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor on the back side, yes view is terrible but let's be honest how much time do...

New Yorkers know it's not worth your time or money to stay 'in the heart of it' (Times Square, for instance!),. so it's a no brainer that you'd stay a little 'out of the way' to save a few dollars! This location is conveniently located near public transport, and if you're visiting NYC you should probably see Chinatown and Little Italy anyway - both safe neighborhoods surrounding this hotel. Rooms are spacious enough, and everything is exceptionally clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast is expansive (waffles, fruit, cereal, bagels, etc). There was a bit of construction outside this most recent time I stayed - but it's New York and to be expected to pop up anywhere. Just bring some earplugs and you'll be fine if you're a light sleeper.

Only a one night trip but what a surprise to be put in a King Suite... the biggest room I've ever had in the City. Busy during the day but mellow at night. Close to a great Beer Bar and right next to the Metro.

Note first -- this is not next door to Times Square, the Empire State Building, or Central Park: definitely not a neighbourhood with loads of visitors. That said, we really enjoyed staying here. The staff at the hotel are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms (yes, small) are clean (and how much time do you plan to spend in your room? You are in NEW YORK!), breakfast is adequate if not gourmet and will fuel you for hours of sightseeing, and you are 30 seconds walk away from a subway station which will get you anywhere you want to be.

Take some time to get to know the area of the hotel, though. You are in Chinatown, with shops, restaurants and street vendors. You are right next door to Little Italy, with a huge choice of restaurants, delis, and other shops. A few minutes the other way is the East Village. This is authentic New York.

Room Tip: I think some of the rooms have bath tubs -- mine had just a shower, but it was spacious. You might w...

This Hotel was very good. The room was clean and inexpensive compared to alot of other hotels. The continental breakfast was a great start for our day. Close to Chinatown and Little Italy. Great view from the top floor while exercising. We had an accessible room with two adults and two children and there was a sufficient amount of room for all of us with the wheelchair too. There is some construction going on across the street but if your used to the city noises it is not bad at all. I was also doing a project for college on cultural diversity and it was the perfect spot. I would definitely stay here again with my family!!! :)
