A few days before our entry, the owner's representative (Daniel) called me and told that the apartment we had hired was unavailable due to serious maintenance issues (boiler out of order). He offered us an alternative, near downtown. As we were very near our travel day, and New York rental market is very hot at year end, we accepted.
The del we got was better in some aspects, and not so in others.
Better than we had hired:
-The city area. The new apartment was in South Seaport district, instead of East Harlem, and much closer to key attractions in downtown Manhattan
-One more bedroom
Worse than we hired:
-One less bathroom. For a large family of 7, this was a significant issue
-A very underequipped apartment. We had chairs, plates, and cutlery for 4 persons instead of 7, there were no plugs available in some rooms. In this issue the owner, Mike, did a significant effort to solve it.
-Several maintenance issues: lights out of order, windows that did not close properly. Some of them were solved after a couple of days.
I appreciate the efforts of Daniel to offer an alternative, and Mike's to solve the apartment problems, and made the best of the alternatives to enjoy Christmas at NYC.
