Owner description: The chapel is closed for restoration until work is completed in the fall. The churchyard will remain open. St. Paul's Chapel is part of Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal parish that has been a part of New York City since 1697. The parish is deeply rooted in the city’s and the nation’s history. Established during the British occupation of New York and recognized by royal charter, Trinity was the first Anglican Church (which followed the services of the Church of England and included the King or Queen in its prayers) in Manhattan. St. Paul's Chapel was founded in 1766 as a chapel-of-ease at Broadway and Fulton Street. George Washington prayed there after his inauguration as President in 1789. Located just across the street from the World Trade Center, St. Paul’s played an important role in hosting recovery workers after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

“Beautiful historic church and dedication to 9/11 tragedy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

A well preserved piece of history. It has it's own cemetery as well. The architecture is gorgeous. The inside is impressive with it's decor and chandeliers. there is alter of names and faces of those who perished in the 9/11 and some other memorabilia in relation to that event. Free and worth visiting

“Very moving”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

This was a truly moving experience. Well thought out and sensitively put across. You can leave a message which was lovely. Many items to touch your heart , a firefighters jacket and boots did it for me. Puts life into perspective after a visit here.

“A Quiet Historic Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

Not too far away from the World Trade Center site is St. Paul's Chapel, an unassuming and immensely historic building that has watched a lot of history unfold. President George Washington and the some of the first members of Congress worshiped here, the Chapel survived the great 1776 fire that swept through lower Manhattan and it served as a makeshift memorial for the tragic events of 9/11.

I accidentally found this place and was as a history nerd was quite glad that I did. It's a quiet little place that pays homage to all the history that has taken place there. Admission is free and photography is allowed.

“Highlight of our trip”

We visited this little church during a Sunday morning service and it was so moving.
What a beautiful memorial to the lives of all those lost and wonderful to see how everyone supported each other. A must see.

“Gorgeous!”

Worth seeing. The workmanship is beautiful and it is very quiet so gives a nice place for contemplation in a busy city.
