Owner description: The chapel is closed for restoration until work is completed in the fall. The churchyard will remain open. St. Paul's Chapel is part of Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal parish that has been a part of New York City since 1697. The parish is deeply rooted in the city’s and the nation’s history. Established during the British occupation of New York and recognized by royal charter, Trinity was the first Anglican Church (which followed the services of the Church of England and included the King or Queen in its prayers) in Manhattan. St. Paul's Chapel was founded in 1766 as a chapel-of-ease at Broadway and Fulton Street. George Washington prayed there after his inauguration as President in 1789. Located just across the street from the World Trade Center, St. Paul’s played an important role in hosting recovery workers after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The church was being renovated when we get there, but you can see and feel the details and historic value of this church

This unassuming little chapel is known as the Miracle of St Pauls after it survive, unscathed, the collapse of the towers despite its proximity. It then became a haven and respite centre for the rescue and recovery workers for the months after.
A small, very personal look at the disaster which highlights the amazing support and sense of community on show following the tragedy.
Very moving tributes and memorials.
Do not miss it.

Really opens your eyes to just what happened, how many people it affected and the true uproot of a city as great as NYC. How truly awful it really was but how the community pulled together brings a tear to your eye. This church survived through it all, truly inspiring.

I was very reluctant to go to the site of the Twin Towers as I didn't want to appear ghoulish. I was so glad I went to pay my respects and I was incredibly moved, again, by my visit to St Paul's. It is such a lovely place to be quiet and remember those that died and those that helped in the days after such a tragedy. I would encourage everyone to go and pay their respects to our American friends who were affected that day. There is a timeline and history of all the events immediately afterwards. A truly moving tribute.
