As I told my wife repeatedly when we were walking through the Financial District last weekend, so much of the downtown area has been torn down and rebuilt over and over again, that little of what the area must have looked like in previous centuries survives. Luckily, there are some pockets of preserved architecture here and there. Stone Street Historic District is one of them. It's a bit touristy, with some nice pubs and such for visitors to eat in. But after walking through the antiseptic wall street area, it is nice to see something from another era, with some color and character to it.
