“Will highly recommend this hotel as a base in NYC!”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

This review is based on a two week stay in a queen room on the top floor, facing the street.
PROS:
Room:
- Clean, daily turn down.
- Flat screen TV, Iron, Hairdryer, Climate Control Air Con
- Comfortable bed, choice of two pillows.
- Very large for NYC (we had a corridor, room to place bags and more to spare)
- Extremely quiet when double glazed windows closed.
- Laundry room available too.
- Private airport transfer on departure. Organised through the front desk (which is on level 1).
Location:
- Close to the F Orange Metro line which connected to most lines.
- Walking distance to Bowery, Little Italy, Canal, Broadway shopping.
- Great little eateries around (plenty of choices in Chinatown, Doughnut Planet on Grand and Essex, as was Flowers Cafe (great bagels) and bars (Bar 169 - cheap drinks and oysters!)
CONS
Room:
- Hairdryer was on the wall, though still had enough power.
- TV did not have great reception.
- Wifi pretty much didn’t exist.
- Older room but not in a way that was a problem.
- Plastic cups rather than glass.
- No minibar, but very cheap vending machines located on several floors.
- An extremely slow lift, but that seemed to be common in NYC. Walking the stairs was much quicker.
Location:
- Chinatown has a certain aroma and some radio-active looking puddles. If you can’t handle strong smells, this place is not for you.
- F Orange metro line was probably the slowest in all that we encountered.
OVERALL
A great, safe and well located base in NYC. Always had a good night sleep.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street seemed to be larger and less noisy than other reviews have suggested. We onl...

Went to Manhattan NYC this past Saturday with my bf for a wedding reception, so we decided to stay at Hotel 91, which was closest to the wedding restaurant. The check in was pretty quick, got to our room in less than 15 minutes, the room was not too big, not too small. Sheets were clean, and the bed was very comfortable, Restroom was clean.

The only down side is the hotel is awfully closed to the Bridge, so when ever the subways/trains went by, could give you a good headache. If you don't like noise, don't stay here, might keep you up all night, although the rooms could use some sound poof walls.

Over all not a bad hotel at all. Will sure be checking in next time we go down. Thanks.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms from the back side of the hotel, less noise.

I've stayed in Hotel 91, in the heart of Chinatown, for three years running, having previously struggled to find anything in NYC that I consider value for money. I really like Hotel 91, love the neighbourhood and, while it's not the world's greatest hotel, it offers great value for money and is very affordable.

Chinatown is not somewhere I'd visit often, but it's a vibrant place to stay and there are plenty of options here and in nearby Little Italy to eat both for breakfast (none at the hotel) and in the evening. I've always found the staff to be friendly, the rooms are clean and it feels very safe.

However, there are a few things to watch out for. The first is the rooms themselves. Although they're not small, in order to fit into the building, which is a very strange shape, the rooms often have weird layouts. Two out of three times the room hasn't had a usable desk and the third time I had to rearrange the furniture!

The second is the internet, which while free, has its drawbacks. Although there is wireless, I've found it to be very patchy so if your only internet capable device is a smart phone or tablet, you could be in for a frustrating time! While there is an ethernet cable outlet in each room, two times out of three the outlet was about 10m away from the desk! So, if using your laptop is important to you, be prepared to sit on the bed with it on your lap, bring your own 10m long cable or move the furniture!

The last downside is the hotel's location right by the Manhattan Bridge! It's not a place for views (unless you like happen to looking at the sides of bridges at point-blank range) and if you find traffic and subway train noise disturbs yourself sleep, don't come here. Personally, it didn't bother me and the sound-proofing is good, but you can still hear it, making ear-plugs a necessity.

Room Tip: I've always had rooms higher up the hotel and I've always found them to be okay.

Great hotel, clean and room was not as small as we expected. Yes there is a lot of noise from the train but we knew it was under the bridge and it did not bother us. The location is ok if you don't mind china town but we thought it was disgusting. This is no reflection on the hotel but you can't even walk through outside streets without holding your nose and the streets are filthy. We saw a massive group of rats outside the hotel. A good place to stay if you don't mind Chinatown and don't plan on spending much time in your hotel room ( which most people who go to New York I'm sure don't!) good value compared to other manhattan hotels.

Hotel was clean and overall nice. Situation is in the middle of chinatown and there is only chinese restaurants and stores nearby but you can walk to the soho and the tribeca. Hotels are more expensive if you search few blocks to north.
Perhaps next time we will stay in Brooklynn or Williamsburgh but this good hotel for maximum three nights stay because the room are very small.

Room Tip: In the uper floors the metro doesnt upset you.

The hotel is located just next to the subway above ground track. The horrendous track noise rumble above our head everyday. Regretfully we booked for three days without such info in booking.com. (Is marketing there is no honesty). The moment you step out of the hotel you are next to a row of stinky unhygienic restaurants, wet market (Chinatown). Hotel staff sucks. Coffee and tea on the same level as the reception which is 2nd floor. Any way you will not miss coffee/tea making because is instant mix. Lastly, the lightings are awful. only one dim ceiling light at the main door?? And one table lamp next to the bed. We live in darkness even in the day. For the price of USD220 nightly, we feel cheated. We will not be back and will not recommend.

I travel to New York every year to visit my son. I usually go late May and early June but this year I went earlier only to find I could not find a decent hotel in Manhattan for under $225 a night. I searched and search until I found Hotel 91. The pictures looked decent, the location seemed ok and the price was in my budget so I took it.
The cab driver from Penn station had no idea where the hotel was until I gave him the address. The entrance is on the 2nd floor. Our room was 709- in the back - the room was for my son and me and we had 2 twin beds. The room was tiny (as are most hotel rooms I have stayed in, in New York), had no closet -just an area with hangers, no dresser, just one drawer by the bed. Worst of all we had a beautiful view of the lower level of the Manhattan Bridge and the D train which ran right outside the room. So every few minutes the room would shake from the rumble of the train. This hotel used the cheapest of everything- thin, worn towels in the bathroom, flimsy lights on the desk and bed table, and instant coffee in the morning.
In fairness, I will say that the hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable so if you use earplugs- the train won't bother you. Also, the location is in the middle of China Town - near the lower east side so if you just walk out of the hotel and walk in any direction- it is interesting.
