This is normally part of the tour of the Statue of Liberty. It is well worthwhile. The museum is interesting and although the Island is small there is plenty to see and read. The one really amazing thing is that they are still suffering from the tornado that hit over a year earlier. More great opportunities for photos of the Manhattan Skyline.

Ellis Island was great! My cruise boat stopped here, and there was so much scenic attraction and good food as well! Make this part of your trip to New York!

A good place if you are into history and how the immigrants entered US. Its a nicely maintained place with good historical importance and a movie giving details for the same.
club it with the statue of liberty tour and you will not be sorry that you visited the place.

we visited on 27th December but unfortunately could only view the ground floor and Registration Hall. Having visited 5 years ago, I was aware of much more to see over the 3 floors, but unfortunately, due to Hurricane Sandy, much of the exhibits have been removed due to temperature control in the building and placed in storage elsewhere in the USA. Just something to be aware of if you're planning a visit there.

This is an impressive experience. The money has been pouring in, letting the renovations move forward and they are putting the money to good use. They are not selling anything, just telling the story. This is the immigrants story, and it is told with items, memories, and small short lectures. You may already have an opinion of what that was but, hold that thought until you hear what they have to say. You will find the stories that so many were turned away with little more that "you don't qualify" but, you will hear about the highest quality of healthcare. You might even be surprised who came through, along with a distant relative of your own. It is a mark of pride, not shame.
