“Nostaligia at it's best”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

This is one location in NYC I consider a must. It can be combined with a visit to the Statue Of Liberty. Although I personally would prioritise. It is a trip back in time which really highlights the trials & tribulations of the pioneer immigrant. Many who had left Europe for a freer country & an escape from persecution. It shows the Isolation hospital & various period props. You really do get a sense of deja vu when surrounded by it all. If it doesn't pull on your heart strigs, then all I can say is you must have ice in your veins.

“Very Interesting”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

Caught the ferry from Battery Park and visited Liberty Island first and then Ellis Island. I found Ellis Island the more interesting of the two.
Ellis Island was the embarkation point for over 12 million immigrants between 1892 to 1954 hoping for a new life in the USA. The main building has been restored and is supported by a wealth of information, we walked around for hours and could have stayed longer. The only disappointment is that it poured with rain and we were unable to walk around the outside.

“Historical, educational and interesting”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

I found my visit to Ellis Island very educational. It was helpful to do a little research beforehand to appreciate the museum even more. It is in this very building that many of our ancestors stood waiting to become Americans. I found the tour to be a little difficult to follow and would definitely recommend going in the morning. The place gets packed toward the afternoon and therefore, less enjoyable to explore. You do not need to budget a ton of time here, maybe 2 hrs to cover everything in detail. There is a nice gift shop and a cafeteria as well.

“History..history comes to life!”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

Ellis Island is unique. For every American, looking at where your forefathers came through, reading about their challenges, seeing the items they brought with them when they came...they make history alive! And they will touch your heart! Adults and children will learn much here.

You could spend your life researching there. More info that one person can absorb. Ground yourself. We are all immigrants
