“Great museum.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Our daughter lives in NYC, after several visits and seeing all the regular NYC sights several times, Broadway, art museums, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island etc. We started looking for something different. Sure glad we found the Tenement Museum. Very educational and a real insight on how the immigrants lived. They offer several tours, we have done two of them, The "Sweat Shop Workers" and "Hard Times". We are glad we did the two different tours. However they do over lap on several things. So if you only have time for one or decide to do only one. I would suggest taking the "Sweat Shop Workers" tour. Also it is best to get your tickets in advance, the groups are very limited in size. Hope you enjoy the tour as much as we did.

“go back in time”

This is a great tour to get a sense of what New York was like for immigrants who came to America. They take you through restored apartments and talk about the people who lived there. You can choose the type of tour you want to take. We took a tour about an Irish family that had lived in one of the apartments. It was interesting to hear about their daily lives while walking through the actual apartment they lived in. Very different from our lives today! Great for kids!

“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

We visited the museum last week and did the Irish experience tour. As first time visitors to NY this tour gave us a fabulous insight into the history of immigrants to NY. Our guide was most knowledgeable and enthusiastic and although she had a story to tell she brought the group into the discussion and made everyone think about the hardships these people endured. It was also interesting to visit an area of NY that probably few tourists go to. I thoroughly recommend this museum. Book early as places fill quickly.
