Owner description: The world-famous Empire State Building offers unobstructed panoramic views of New York City and beyond from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. daily. Our 86th and 102nd floor Observation Decks offer the two highest vantage points in New York City. Soaring 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan from base to antenna, the Empire State Building is the World's Most Famous Office Building. Named America's favorite building in a poll conducted by the American Institute of Architects, the Empire State Building is one of New York City's top tourist destinations. On a clear day, you can see up to five states from our Observation Decks - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Guests can enjoy our outdoor viewing area on our open-air 86th floor Observatory, or our indoor climate-controlled viewing areas on the 86th and 102nd floors. We recently launched our new Multimedia Experience as well, which guides visitors through the extraordinary exhibits and breathtaking views with additional depth on the building's history in eight languages - including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean. The Empire State Building aims to provide entertainment for guests of all ages. Bringing children? Have their picture taken with King Kong himself on our 80th floor from Thursdays through Mondays (12 p.m. until 9 p.m.). Celebrating a first date or an anniversary? Enjoy romantic tunes from our saxophone player from 9 p.m. until midnight every Thursday through Saturday night. Tickets can be purchased through our website. Our celebrated tower lights are often illuminated to commemorate holidays, events and special causes. In the Fall of 2012, we upgraded our tower lighting system from floodlights to one-of-a-kind LED tower lights. The state-of-the-art system allows customized lighting capabilities from a palette of over 16 million colors! To watch some of our recent light shows, visit our YouTube page. Reigning as the world's tallest building from 1931 to 1970, the Empire State Building is known for its distinct Art Deco style. Construction of the renowned icon only took one year and 45 days, and logged more than 7 million man hours. This is the fastest construction to date for a project of its scale. Additionally, from classics like An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle to recent hits such as Oblivion and Elf, our place in pop culture has been solidified since our early days. In fact, over 200 movies and TV shows have featured the Empire State Building in them!

Unlike the previous reviews where people had to wait, we had no wait at all. Went just before midnight and we could the see all the cordoned roped off areas where people usually have to wait. Was easy to work out how long the queue must get at times. Honestly, there was more security personnel than people visiting.

There was just the 2 us and a group of 3 young men going up and when we got to to top there might have been a few more people but not more than a dozen. Could not believe how quite it was. Maybe we were just lucky

The view is unbelievable at night.

Even for someone afraid of heights the experience was great. We went early so no crowds but during the day would be chaotic.

Hi philk1957- We're glad you enjoyed your experience and the views. There are three off-peak time periods when our lines tend to be shorter and the Observatory is less crowded: 8-10 a.m., 2-4 p.m. and 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Thank you for coming. - Empire State Building

We made the mistake x2. first was that we went mid day..this is something you need to do early because the longer you wait the worse the lines get. second mistake..we went after about 4 days of cloudy weather..I think every one in ny that was visiting went there today..It was a nightmare. your first about 30 lanes of lines you like ok..this cant be that bad then you get thru security which took forever because of the express riders but once you get past that your excited because you think you must be getting ready to go to the top..uh no! there was another set 30 deep of lines then after that another 25 deep and then you get to the top after waiting for 2 hours and realize you are not going to get to see because there are 500 people all standing around and you cant get to the view and all you want to do is leave..oh ya mind you had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get to the observation deck..because they say that it will take to long to wait for the elevator..wth...so we go up 6 flights then see to leave you have to wait in line to leave..I wanted to throw myself off the building..dont do it!

Hi Rebecca- We are sorry to hear your experience did not meet your expectations. It is true that we will tend to have larger crowds after a few days of inclement weather. This was particularly true last week as we sustained four (4) bad weather days that resulted in huge pent-up demand on the first day of sunrays. As one of the most popular attractions in NYC, we do our best to keep the lines moving. For those with flexible schedules, we recommend visiting during our off-peak hours (8-10 a.m., 2-4 p.m. and after 9 p.m.-2 a.m.) to avoid longer waits. We appreciate you taking the time to visit. - Empire State Building

My lady bought express tickets for two via the Internet about 10 months ago. We chose a day that happened to be cloudy with a light drizzle … it just turned out that way. There were no crowds so the express tickets had no benefit. Everyone is routed to take a photo upon entering and everyone is routed to an area to purchase that photo for $20 and to buy souvenirs upon leaving. We rode to the 86th observation deck and observed all that we could in all directions. We then went to the 102nd floor deck and did the same. Although we could see sights of interest, there was no excitement for us. The lack of excitement could be attributed to having vacationed in Paris, which ended two days prior. One reviewer on TripAdvisor stated that the Empire State Building is best appreciated from ground level. For us, on that day, it was the ground level view that was most exciting. We plan to return next year and visit at night. But, before we enter, we’ll make sure that it’s a clear night.

Hi Beyondthebull- We're sorry to hear your experience did not live up to your expectations, and we hope you will return for another visit. While the Express Pass may not have benefitted you on that particular day, a tip for standard ticketholders is that our lines tend to be shorter during our off-peak hours: 8-10 a.m., 2-4 p.m. and 9 p.m.-2 a.m. All of our tickets can be purchased online, and doing so will allow you to skip the ticket line when you arrive. Thank you for coming, and we look forward to seeing you again. - Empire State Building
