Owner description: The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. It was a very enjoyable experience. We did not get to go to the crown because tickets were sold out, but we did go up to the top of the pedestal. We enjoyed the history & stories behind the statue, and it's quite an experience being up close to it versus just seeing it from lower Manhattan.

Visit Statue of Liberty during American Independence weekend. Went there from Battery Park in a ferry. Its was peak summer time so was very hot. Got nice view of NYC building from the sea. Statue of Liberty is a very beautiful structure just as I have always seen in mvoies and pics. So watching it up close was wonderful.
We couldn't get to the top as the tickets got sold months ago. So if you visit to go till top book long before.
We saw a board saying they will visitor certificate if you sign up. Though we were skeptical, I gave my email id and signed up. After 1 month, I received my statue of Liberty visitor certificate with my name on it which is very cute. So don't miss your certificate.
There are 2 boarding points on return journey. One to New York and one to New Jersey. I almost boarded the New Jersey ferry as it seemed less crowded. Make sure you board the right ferry.

1. Should you do it while in NYC - definitely
2. Put aside half a day
3. Buy tickets on line way before the trip date; if you want to visit the crown probably 6 months in advance
4. Travel light; to get on the boat and in the statue you need to clear security as in the airport; plus you can not carry a backpack in the statue; your only option is to leave it in a storage ($2 cash automatic) which does not accommodate large backpacks!!!
5. Have some cash with you
6. If you buy tickets for 11:00 you do not have to wait until than; basically you can take a boat anytime that day I believe

It was a bright sunny day in August, the ferry ride was quite pleasant & the line to get inside though a bit long, moved quickly. The museum on the island was quite informative & we had tickets to visit the crown as well. The view from the crown was really good, though you had to look out from the very tiny windows & the climb up is definitely not for the faint hearted or claustrophobic.
