The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American revolution.
it looks green due to chemical reaction of copper with the atmosphere.oxidies.

“Just a media hyped place for me”

The only reason to visit here is that your NY trip is not complete without visiting this place. But for me its just an ordinary place with some extra ordinary media hyped.

Buy a nice calendar of New York sites and save your money. It's just a statue and the grounds are closed due to Sandy damage.

“Beautiful...”

Ellis Island and Lady Liberty were closed so I got to see her from Battery Park and she was still beautiful. I was very greatful to have seen her in person!!

“Must do while in New York but check for hours”

The site is currently closed for renovation but you can purchase a boat our that takes you around the island. It is supposed to reopen sometime this summer.
