“Friendly service in great location”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

What a wonderful 8 day stay. The apartment was well equipped, clean and in a great location only blocks away from Time Square and Theatre's. There are many restaurants at affordable prices situated close by, however if you wanted to get some groceries the store is nearby . The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is quiet, however i suggest requesting a room at the back. Also there are some rooms that have stand in baths to shower. If you prefer walk-in shower recess best to request.

Room Tip: Request room at the back if you prefer quiet, also request walk in shower recess if you prefer.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel. It was our first time in New York. We caught the train in from Boston (see review). It took us about 10 minutes to walk from Penn Station to the hotel. They let us check in early, we dropped off our stuff and headed out. (Itinerary is below).
Some other reviews complained that the room was small. Maybe they had more than too people in their room. We had a queen bed, a desk, a chest of drawers, nightstand, full kitchen and bath. What more do you need? We were quite pleased that the room was very quiet for as much traffic as there is in New York. Even the A/C was quiet. We were on the 26th floor. Not much of a view, but kind of cool to be up that high. If there is a knock on the hotel, it’s that there is no breakfast. From 7-9 reward members get a “breakfast bag” upon request, but no hot breakfast.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Tuesday 6/11
Arrived at hotel dropped off bags
Walked to Times Square
M&M Store (does anyone really need a pound of M&Ms…we did it anyway).
Walked to Ed Sullivan Theater
Walked to St. Patrick Cathedral
Gyro from Street Vendor (it was okay…Lamb was tender…didn’t catch the name).
Walked to 30 rock…got tickets for top of the rock.
Walked to CBS
Dinner at Ben’s Deli (not too far from hotel, like on 39th or 40th, very good).
Walked to 30 rock. Did the top of the rock at 9:30pm. Beautiful clear night for a viewing.

Day 2: Wednesday 6/12
Walked to Grand Central (ate breakfast)
Rode subway to lower Manhattan
Walked to 911 memorial
Walked to Wall Street. (Photo taken with Bull)
Walked to Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Took free ferry. (S.O.L. is still under repair from Sandy)
Ferry back to Lower Manhattan.
Subway to China Town.
Lunch at China Village (on Baxter St. in Chinatown, excellent Crab Rangoon).
Subway to Carnige Hall.
Walked Central Park west to the Dakota and Strawberry Fields (Swear we saw Yoko roller blading in C.P.)
Walked to Hooters.
Walked to Hell’s Kitchen Area to find Daily Show Studio and Colbert Report Studio.
Saw intrepid on the way back to hotel.
Grabbed fried chicken from NYC Fried Chicken at 8th and 39th. Tasty!

Day 3: Thursday 6/13
Walked to ABC Good Morning America. Stood out in the rain like idiots so our moms could see us on TV. (No they didn’t).
Ate breakfast at some place across the street from Lettermans’ studio.
Subway to Citi field
Baseball game Mets v Cardinals (we’re cardinals fans!!!).
Subway to Times Square.
Dinner at Shake Shack
Cheesecake at Juniors in the Theatre district. (Very good).
Back to hotel because it was raining like the dickens’.

Left Friday morning from Penn Station to Boston on Amtrak. (See Boston review).

A couple of other things I’ll mention:
1. We’re hikers from Portland. While the Subway is nice, you can’t see anything and most places are easy to walk to.
2. Liberty Tours take you around lady Liberty, but not to the island as the statue is still being repaired. The Staten Island Ferry is free and takes you right by her. We opted for the free.

Any questions? Send me a message.

We have just finished a three night stay here, and loved it!! The location is perfect the staff are great the hotel clean and presents well. Shortly after check in the phone rings and it is Alison from the front desk.....just checking everything with the room is to our liking......it is the little things like this that gives this hotel and its staff a homely feel. We asked for a high room with a view...we got the 31st floor looking out to the Empire state building!!! Can't beat that....we only hope the management realize what a good team they have...we would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope to stay again one day.

Candlewood Suites is so close to everything we need to see. It was only a 5 to 10min walk to the Times Square area and Broadway. The hop on/off bus drops are not far from the hotel so after a day of sightseeing its not far to return to rest your weary feet.
The hotel itself has exceptional staff who help in anyway they can. There is WiFi available & the rooms are equipped with great kitchen facilities (microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher & stove). They dont offer housekeeping but i prefer my rooms not to be disturbed whilst on holidays. They have a DVD library when you want to relax in the room and a pantry where you can purchase snacks & drinks or staple items.
They have a small gym available 24/7 & a laundry area with washing machines & dryers which are free to use 24/7 - you just need detergent (which is $2 from the pantry).

I have stayed in this hotel for 5 nights, and the location is definitely a big plus point as it is just about 5 mins walk to Times square. And If you are planning to go to Woodbury shopping outlet, this hotel is definitely highly recommended as this is just about 1 street away from the Port authority terminal.

I arrived at about 12pm but they are pretty strict with the checkin time, hence I have to leave my luggage in their store and go back to hotel and checkin after 2pm. Personally, I feel the front desk staff besides Katty, the rest of the staff are not that friendly. Generally, I didn't feel very welcome in this hotel.

The room is of a good size with a nice kitchenette where you can heat up food or make a simple food. And they provide a very nice microwave/convection oven for heating up food. Besides these good points, the rest are all bad points for me. The pillows I had in my room have very strong cigarette stench on it. Not sure if they do change the pillow case at all. In addition, my bath tub is permanently "flooded" when I do standing shower. The water takes ages to drain off.

Despite these complains, I guess the great location have compensated for the downside of the stay.

Stayed one night at the Candlewood Suites before a cruise. It was perfectly located only a short walk from the Port Authority bus terminal so we were able to catch the airport bus from Newark airport rather than a taxi. Very short walk to Times Square. Room was very comfortable but on the small side. Best feature was that it was very quiet. This is a huge plus in a city like NYC so very worth considering.

The front desk staff is amazing ... especially Monica (she can handle any issues with grace, and seems to remember anyone who has been there before!). The rooms are the right size for 1 or 2 people, have a nice little kitchen, and I like the desk. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. This stay, they ran out of regular coffee for the coffee makers in the room ... so that was a bummer (although, there is always hot coffee in the main lobby ... so the day was saved!).

Room Tip: Stay up high, to get away from the street noise
