We came to Cocoron on a whim after the restaurant we wanted to visit was full. I’m so glad we did as it was the biggest unexpected delight. There were pages of Vege options on the menu which is rare for a Japanese restaurant. Normally I find vegan soba very bland and flavorless, but here I tried the spicy vegan dip soba and it was some of the tastiest noodles of my life (and I say that after traveling around Japan)! The space is quite small and there seems to always be a cue but this place is definitely worth the wait. A New York must!

this is not your typical japanese place, no sushi or sashimi in sight. I have to say i really loved the food. We ordered a bunch of appetizers which i cant remember and then we each got our own main. I ordered the Mera Mera dish which was beyond delicious. It was spicy which i love. The only negative comment i have is that the AC doesnt work in this restaurant. They mentioned that their other restaurant on Delancy street had AC. So it was a little uncomfortable eating spicy food in the heat, and i get hot quickly so i had to leave the restaurant every few minutes just to catch a breeze. The waiters were super sweet and helpful. I really recommend you come try this place. Ps. Cash only restaurant

Great food, but it was uncomfortable eating because there were a few servers that kept coming around to look around every few minutes. The way they were looking was as if they were inspecting to see there were no pests around. It definitely wasn’t a casual look-over to see if you were done eating or if you needed anything. Made eating awkward because they would interrupt THE SECOND you seemed like you were finished to take your dish away.

Found this restaurant through google map explorer, and blown away by the experience. I love love love the chicken spicy soba!
Also, this is probably the restaurant in NY with the best service! We also had a complementary rose tea after we finished our dinner :)

Really the most tasteful, traditional soba restaurant, so good. So glad to have found this little spot. nyc can be overwhelming with selection, but this is a worthy place to visit. Highly recommended
