The receptionist at the Super 8 was friendly and helpful. We got the ground-floor room that was handicap accessible. It looked like all the other rooms would require going up or down stairs. The room was just big enough for the queen-sized bed. It was reasonably clean and did include a microwave and refrigerator. The bed was comfortable and the linens clean. I did find a dirty washcloth on the nightstand when we arrived. The room looked like it had been recently painted but the painter was rather sloppy - drops here and there, some of the appliance cords with paint on them, etc.
The bathroom was clean and all the fixtures worked ok.
Fortunately there was little traffic during the night since we did get some highway noise.
The breakfast included with the room was very limited and the breakfast room not very inviting. It was on the second floor, accessible only by stairs.
The hotel is on the south side of town and made a good jumping-off point to visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
There are a lot of choices for places to stay in Carlsbad. I'd probably try something else if I'm around there again.
1st Room's AC didn't work. 2nd Room's toilet backed-up. And both rooms were filthy and smelled like they used some industrial strength air freshener to cover up urine or smoking smells or both. Breakfast was stale, no coffee until I asked and nearly out of everything else. Carpet everywhere was old and spelled of urine on the 2nd floor while every room you saw looked like a storage shed to include the lobby and office behind the lobby. Staff was not knowledgable, but were friendly. I will never stay in a Super 8 again.
