I met some cousins in Carlsbad, as they had never been to the caverns.
I've been here several times, in past winters and things were quiet and cheap, not so anymore, due to the oil boom. I booked this motel, because I didn't want to spend $150 a night[paid $54+ tax]. when you go to a motel 6, you aren't expecting the ritz. our rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was nice. the hotel is almost always clear full, all of the time.

So you need to know that I am a bit of a snob about hotels (but only a bit). We usually try to stay in at least 3 star places, but this time we were with family who needed a less expensive alternative and we didn't want to split up. For some reason the hotels in Carlsbad are unusually expensive - yes, the Caverns are right there, but Alamagordo motels serving White Sands were far more reasonable- and we didn't want to make a fuss for just one night, hence Motel 6.

Motel 6 seems to have gotten the message and tried to upgrade their rooms, but they didn't bother with the reception area - dingy and unwelcoming. And the (very small) room upgrades are cheap. We had to unplug the mini frig because is was so noisy. Yes, it's a nice touch to have one, but only if you can keep it running without disturbing your sleep. The family members' adjoining room had a much newer and quieter frig. The flooring was some kind of cheap material and was already getting grungy in the corners. The mattress was fairly comfortable but the quality and cleanliness of the linens was poor, except for the towels, which were surprisingly decent. You get what you pay for and this was, after all, a Motel 6. We will avoid in the future.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else if you can.

After looking at the other reviews of this motel we thought it musn't be that bad, however, this place is cheap for a reason.
The beds were covered in pet hair (on and in the beds), there was blood on one of the pillows, the others were stained and apparently 1/4 of a roll of toilet paper is good enough for a family of four.
After complaining to the manager (an Indian lady) she somehow lost her ability to speak english as soon as we mentioned getting a refund and changing motels.
The managers did however provide full replacement linens, which were much cleaner. Next time we'll spend the extra and get somewhere decent.

There are some that complain about Motel 6. There are plenty of hotels in Carlsbad that will gladly take your money. The Hampton Inn is a whopping $200 per night in Carlsbad. The Best Western $150. I think that is outrageous. Again this is a Motel 6. It does not come with all the "amenities" that other hotels may provide. However, the room looks as if it were recently renovated. The room was clean, bed was comfy and everything in the room was in working condition. We had plenty of towels, nice tv mounted on the wall and the internet was fast. The receptionist was courteous and the check in was quick and simple. So if you are passing by Carlsbad for a night or two, i would definitely recommend this hotel. I payed $67 (with tax). It is a bargain considering what other hotels are charging! Highly recommend.

Me and my two kids came to spend christmas because my husband didn't have day off :( but fortunately we made of our room our house, everything was clean the beds were really comfortable (like REALLY!) so we had a very good rest, then it was quiet maybe cause of the season but really worth it... Affordable and comfortable... I definitely come back again ;)

We traveled with our three Whippets on the way to the caverns, we could have paid $25 per dog plus another $130+ to stay at a motel a star/class up. For one night, we decided to go for it at Motel 6. For the money, we were very pleased. The room was clean! The bathroom sink and area looked recently remodeled. The room was small but it did the job. Flat screen TV, Refrigerator, Microwave and plenty of small storage nooks was a plus. We were in room 234 which was in the corner 2nd floor. We read, and it is true, the 2nd floor is quieter and the dogs got a bit of exercise going up and down the stairs on the opposite end of the building. There is a quite and nice residential neighborhood in walking distance which was nice for walking the dogs. Being outside 'downtown' Carlsbad is good for those travling with dogs. Total cost plus tax with discount (AARP) $66.80, dinner almost cost that much. A screaming deal.

we had to stay in Carlsbad for two nights and after reading previous reviews I had very bad expectations, but the room was clean, quiet, sheets and towels smelled cleaned. I had no issues the staff was friendly and the room even had a flat screen tv mounted on the wall. the rooms are small but over all it was a good stay.
I reserved the room with two beds and it was really clean and did not have a smoke smell or anything. will be staying here again.

Room Tip: I reserved the room with two beds non smoking and it was really clean and did not have a smoke smell...
