5 of us for $42 including tax. A surprisingly good buffet in Carlsbad. Waitstaff very attentive, friendly, and easygoing, cashier could use a customer service training class:-( An older building that could use some work to really pop. Parking and access was good. More ambiance please. A bit of a cattle trough... Sushi was a little old but I didn't get ill.

This is a big buffet with several lines of food; salads, desserts, main dishes, vegetables etc. Good variety, everything was hot and tasty. Service was good with prompt drink refills.

...and speed-feeding, but over all it was better than I expected in a place that has only the tiniest Chinese population and probably little demand for Asian gourmet cooking. It's all you can eat, prix fixe, and therefore reliably predicable. The large selection of dishes is recognizably Chinese (I've been to the PRC twice in the years before it started to westernize, so I have experienced the real deal fairly extensively) but definitely toned down to please the average American palate. This is the place where the oil field workers who roll into town for the workweek eat. They're hungry, hearty eaters, and they can get their fill of their favorites here with their hardhats beside their plates on the table. Also offered are a few comfort food-type non-Chinese options (as I recall, fried chicken, pizza by the slice and the like), so nobody starves. The service (bringing drinks to the table, cleaning away dirty dishes), provided by Chinese staff, is good. Good for a change once you've had your fill of the bar-b-que options in town.
