“Clean hotel, pricey for the type, bad wifi”

Overall, this was a very clean hotel with friendly staff. We came here for a friend's wedding and this is the hotel that was recommended by the bridal party. It was pricey for the type of hotel, but all of the other hotels in Carlsbad seemed equally as pricey. The breakfast buffet was free and pretty good. The main drawback was the free wifi that didn't work. Also, the bar basically turns into a club on the weekend. This could be good or bad depending on what you're into.

Room was ok (typical for a BW), fridge did not work. Internet connection was pitiful.

The only real thing this place had going for it was that it was indoors and near the caverns.

I would likely try another hotel if I were to go back for a second visit to the caverns.

Was visiting Carlsbad with two grandchildren. Everything in Carlsbad overpriced, including this restaurant. We had the chicken fried steak and it was good. Service was good and efficient. Would give the restaurant 3.5.

Stayed at the Best Western for several weeks with other family/business members. This was a 'no drive' dining option as we were exhausted and consuming alcohol most every evening. The food is great if you stick to the standard fare suited for a remote locale such as Carlsbad. Chicken fried steak - awesome, most pasta dishes, tilapia, steak (considering price point), burgers, catfish, were great, plus a decent salad bar. Good sweet potato fries. Entrees at dinner from $8 for sandwiches and burgers, to $16 for a standard ribeye. Ate here 10-12 evenings total - most times with up to 10 persons in our party, handled our groups without a problem (or a service fee). The servers were friendly and remembered our drink orders, etc. thru out our stay. There were some misses; several dishes were prepared poorly, not just in quality, but in odd ingredients. Again I recommend the standard 'American' diner offerings and you'll do fine. My local contacts brought their families for Sunday brunch pasta bar, if that speaks to a 'local' recommend. High on the value scale with all things considered in a town where Chili's is high end dining.

Basic Clean Motel right off Highway 180, about 26 miles from Carlsbad Cavern National Park. Our nonsmoking room was right next door to a long term tenant who had his door open and was smoking inside. Smoke kept drifting into our room, yuck. Breakfast items were so/so. Nothing special or worth remembering. Bedspread was dirty, but the sheets on the bed were clean. No ventilation in the bathroom, window would not open. Nice sink area and maid left plenty of towels for two people. TV and channel selection was nice. A bit expensive for what you get, but all motels in area are expensive.
